Today is the last day of play that Drew Morphett will call for ABC Grandstand. He's been doing it a hell of a long time. From Shield to Tests and everything in between. A great servant of the game, and even if everyone mightn't be a fan of his calling, you can't deny his passion and enthusiasm. All the best Drew.

Will be sad to see him go as he has always been apart of AFL football for as long as I can remember

get him on fox footy with Sandy to talk about the old days of footy coverage
That'd be great. Drew and Sandy hosting a weekly show talking about old games/seasons/stories. And not just introducing an old game where they talk for 30 seconds, actually letting them go for it. I reckon it'd be great.

He will be commentating in the Sydney test match. I wonder who the second caller will be for the ABC behind Jim Maxwell going forward.

I know he divides opinion a bit amongst footy and cricket followers but I'll miss his strikingly distinctive voice. Have a lot of nostalgia of times spent listening to it and it will take some adjusting to get used to the change.

Quentin Hull and Peter Walsh might be calling games :/. Why couldn't the ABC get rid of him instead?

Drew, like Tim Lane always give me fond memories of my first 4 or 5 years watching football and seeing guys like them host "The Winners" on ABC TV. Now 3 decades later they are the elder statesmen. Will be sad not to hear both their voices on various calls. Drew's enthusiasm for all his sports he calls on will be missed. Never really enjoyed the modern over the top enthusiasm style of Rex Hunt and Brian Taylor but Drew seemed authentic and not there to be the star.

Love hearing his voice, whenever I listen the ABC AFL and Cricket calls, or on old AFL videos from the 90's. Has a great nostalgic tinge but also a great caller in his own right; and an all rounder to boot.

He has the right mix of serious commentary and humour, one of the better sports commentators going around.

Would love to see him commentate footy back at Ch7 to replace some of the current day muppets.

Footy in the 90's was awesome. The decade of transition from amateur to the full blown professional that it is now. Definitely miss the days of Drew & Sandy calling the games. ****en both have awesome theatrical voices. Was when Carlton were half decent too. Ahh the good old days.

First Kerry O'Keefe and now Morphett - my favourite commentators are dropping like flies!!! All the best for your future, Drew.

Wish they got rid of Peter Walsh instead, he is terrible.

Liked when drew mentioned his sporting hero was Reg Gasnier as well. Will miss his commentary. Wonder how much longer Jim will be around.

Oh man Im gonna miss him :(:(:(

The ABC cricket has gone down hill badly in recent years, with more and more no-names doing the majority of the broadcasting.
O'Keeffe leaving was the last straw for me; I've barely listened since. I only turn it on when I have poor 3aw reception.

I've never heard of Peter Walsh, and I've barely heard of Quentin Hull. Isn't he a tennis guy? I know Dan Lonergan is a footy guy. The ABC seem to be using more of these on-staff all-rounder nobodies, who have no cricket cred.

Is it just a money thing?

What happened to Glenn Mitchell? He was good. Does Alderman still do some games? He's not bad, but a bit conservative.

Henry's ok, even though he sometimes drives me nuts. He's often very patronising, and carries on as if he was the best captain to ever don a light blue cap, but at least he played a bunch of tests (yeah, that matters to me, and I don't give a heck what anyone says :D).

Jim Maxwell is a smooth, articulate pro, who's has earned mucho mucho cred through his many years in the game (shit! He started with the ABC in 1973!). However, he's an old fart, who hates everything new about the game (DRS, etc, etc). Was he broadcasting today? He woulda been apoplectic about the wire getting in Smith's way (if it happened. I haven't seen it).

Glenn Mitchell suffered a bad hit of depression and was suicidal at one stage. Drew not calling is a disgrace, yet we still have to put up with our PM who can't even get a sentence out properly. Yes, it's part of the ABC cutback.
