Much maligned player but all the best in the next phase of your career and thankyou for what you did for the club

Thanks Chris. Given our lack of AFL-tested midfield depth I'm a bit nervous we're letting him go, but all the best to him.

He played through some of the clubs' darkest times until ending up with a well deserved flag.

Aside from his running he is a beautiful kick of the ball, and his delivery inside 50 to JK & co over the years was first class.

Hopefully Masto can get a bit of love on the way out, he more than deserves it despite his years as designated whipping boy. Just going to repost what I said in the trade thread because who’s going to stop me?

Pick 3 set the bar at a very high level for Masto and, while he never developed into a game changing mid like you’d hope from that spot, he was a great servant of the club and unquestionably better than the next set of players taken. Cale Morton, Jarrad Grant, David Myers, Rhys Palmer, Lachie Henderson the next off the board. Had the unenviable task of being linked with Chris Judd, which probably didn’t help.

Credit to Masto. 215 games, premiership with his boyhood club. Consistently selected by two different premiership coaches throughout a 10+ year career. For all the criticism he’s somehow in our top 10 for most tackles ever.

Not always the most popular figure but accepted his role as a sacrificial runner and helped play his part in our latest game plan. Hope he is happy and earns a fat cheque somewhere else. I think he’ll be harder to replace than people initially think, or his exit will encourage Simpson to tinker with how we use our wings in 2020.

Thanks for the memories and the content Masto, you jubilant son of a bitch. Despite HungryTiger claiming every game would be your last for years, you outlasted him by a matter of days, and that’s arguably your greatest achievement.

Thanks Masto - well done on your 200 games and premiership medal.

All the best in the future.

Will take his career any day of the week and we lose a great club man. Glad he got a medallion after a career where a lot of the time got a lot of unwarranted abuse.

Be interesting to see if he gets a gig elsewhere and who gets to replace him in 2020.

All the best Masto!

Well done Masto, so happy you were able to get a premiership medal, raise a family, make friends for life and be part of an epic club for your whole career.

Hoping you stick around in Perth and chill

Now that I have been able to watch a lot more games live I have witnessed first hand how much ground you covered to provide options for defence.

Mo-Fo could run for days!

I have no doubt a team like the Gold Coast could benefit from his professionalism in attaining maximum fitness and playing the team role. Whether they offer him a contract remains to be seen but they could do worse.

There will always be one quarter I will remember from Masten. He was everywhere, especially down the backline and at quarter time he had nine possessions - one kick and eight handballs. It was the best quarter he had every played and ever will.

Wow, Masto's retiring? I just assumed he'd be there past 300 games, chugging along up and down a wing every game and getting blamed for losses.

I will admit that I always thought he was dead-average at best, but he certainly made a good career out of his one and only trick, and got a Premiership medal to boot.

Good luck, Chris. I hope another club out there is willing to pick you up, and you have a long career p*ssing off the supporters on some other team's board.

Hope he gets picked up by another team, he still has plenty to give.

Enjoy your Premiership medal, Masto. Thanks for your service.

I remember hearing on 6PR or 720 that GC have an offer on the table for him

Legend of a bloke, brilliant role player, good foot skills, tank for days.

Unfairly targeted by the unwashed nuffies who don't understand playing a specific role. I've been lucky enough to watch home games live for the past 26 years & he's in the top handful of gut runners I've seen over the years. His running often went unrewarded, spreading the opposition defenders to open up other options, or get the outlet himself. Will be missed, but hopefully we find someone to play the same role.

Great career Masto, one of only 22 premiership players to have played 200 games for our great club.
Hopefully now our house can remain standing during pre-season training.

There's a certain poetry in the career of Chris Masten.

In my near 30 years of watching Eagles games I've never raged so often at any one player for being caught in possession of the ball. How can an elite runner, who plays on the wing, and gets 3/4 of his possessions on the outside, be tackled so often???

Fast forward to 29 September 2018, around 5pm or so EST. 11 seasons of football at AFL culminates with the ultimate success of winning a premiership. And as the siren sounds where is ol' Masto, being tackled to ground with ball in hand.
