Him being delisted doesn't mean he wasn't offered a contract. Being delisted allows him to be a free agent. We may have offered him a deal but he knows a better deal is available. We do him a solid by delisting (as the other team likely wouldn't trade) and he gets to his destination of choice.
If WCE offer him a contract and he reject the offer, then he is not a "delisted FA" and WCE will obtain a compensation when he join another club through FA.
However if he has not been offered a contract by WCE , then he is officially a delisted FA and we will not be compensated.

I never understood the hate for Masto. Yes he was a high draft pick but not many high draft picks play 200 games and win a premiership.

His training, work ethic and uplifting morale were great aspects of him being a role model around the club for young players. He played a tough role particularly in our premiership year where he covered for our attack minded midfielders and ran wing to wing covering heaps of ground.

All the best Masto you will always be remembered as the bloke holding the footy when the siren blew in the 2018 GF.

Alternated between loving him and sometimes hating him.

The thing to remember is that he didnt pick himself at three.

If wed got him for pick 24 we would have been stoked with his career.

Played his best ever game in a grand final - you cant not respect that - and if you do - youre a nuffie.

Hope he plays on at gc - and finishes at the beagles.

Thanks masto

Well done Masto. Thank you for all your great memories and not so great ones. You epitomize hard work and have been an amazing clubman. Thank god this board no longer has to mass debate you any more. It's not your fault you were picked at number 3. But im glad you were a key member of our flag last year. All the best for the future

I think people forget that Masten was a more than capable player during his best years in the early '10s. At times he was the only player in our midfield who could accumulate and kick the bloody ball.

His ability to reinvent himself, to play in the twos and not drop his bundle and to consistently give his absolute are the sort of qualities that the great players have. In a way he's unlucky to be playing in an era of midfield giants.

It's been nice gaining a greater understanding of the man in the last few years. Learning of his passion for the club and the way his teammates love him.

Few players goaling will ever give me the joy that Masten has.

It's taken 12 years, but Masten has won a premiership, played 200 games and finally found his ideal hair/beard combo.

You've done well son. And if this is it, Chris can hold his head high.

Good bye Chris!
One of your fans, from the start of your career when you were taken in the same draft as Ebert, SSelwood
His kicking to forwards was underrated
Will always remember him holding the ball in the end in 2018!

Ah the good ole days of checking the offseason training threads through the late noughties, and seeing houses reduced to rubble
Another era ends, wishing you and your family all the best!

Farewell legendary Space Guardian, you served the club well, when you weren't burning it down!?
Will miss all the hairsplitting debates you created.
So glad you got a GF medal for all your service.
Well done champ!

I'd say that his best game was in 2011 vs Brisbane. I think it was a wet day, we went in heavy favourites and Brisbane took it right up to us, possibly even holding the lead in the 4th. Enter Masto. After struggling to find the ball for half a season, he turned out 31 possessions, 4 marks, 7 tackles and 3.1 (including the match-winner from an HTB free-kick) on the night to carry us over the line. All off a HF flank. IIRC he was our best player by far, a testament to the ability that was there. In case you're interested, Matty Priddis had 24 kicks and 1 handball that game. Oof.
Good call Jiggy. Always remember this one. It was wet. Masto led his marker to stoppage after stoppage and kept roving and leaving with the ball. Noone could go with him that night. Great servant.

In the end, he also trained our hearts down.

Superb career capped with premiership success. As other posters have mentioned his continual ability to adapt to the roles he was given and put in 110 percent effort will likely be missed.

All the best for the next chapter, be it playing elsewhere or finding another stage of life. I can't wait to argue about picking up his kids as father/child selections in due course.

He was ahead of his time, was Masten.

A century from now, when they open the space guarding hall of fame, he will be one of the inaugural inductees. Promoted straight to legend status.

People will look back and say "damn, what a man! Nobody can run and waves their arms like that any more". A true AFL trailblazer

Rest now, my time trial king
