That 70's thread

When I have some time later, I'm gonna have to stock up this thread with some of this band's work...

Until then... just placed an order for a release by a band called 'British Lions'... which was basically Mott The Hoople minus Ian Hunter. I hear very good things.

Then I start my search for some 'City Boy'.

Couldn't agree more, Teflon - what an album!

This is one track I always liked, although at the same time was always a bit disturbed by it. I suppose it's lines like "I'll put some pennies on my eyes, and it will go away ...". Anyway, here's Steven (live version, couldn't find an official clip; in fact don't think I ever saw one):

A truly haunting song.

Every song on that album is brilliant.

The Black Widow

My all time favourite artist who was an unfortunate victim of depression long before it was common place.

A great pianist and vocalist. A real muso's muso.

The Vincent Price dialogue is priceless.

As are his many films.

A favourite, made in 1971....revenge for the widower...

Abominable Dr Phibes...

Rhodes Scholar?

It means he thought you were a dumb shit:D

For him I was, as the intention to delute his gin & dry with tap water got him stroppy at the time. :p When you see mr Pigs Arse at these celeb outtings and you wonder why he isn't p$$ed yet, u do your best to help him lose his licence as he did after the 2000MC.. got him doubles on the gin & dry all arvo and he was quite happy about that. That's the Road Scoller for you. ;)

Did I feel guilty? Pffft! I knew what I was doing. Plan worked a treat. Handed back the shares for good measure :thumbsu:

Here's another 70's classic to grace our screens with no holds barred..

What about Devo? I know that there major success was in the 80's but theie early stuff was fantastic. Classic songs like Pink Pussycat, Come Back Jonee, Jocko Homo and B Stiff are ground breaking stuff for an American band in the mid to late 70's. American commercial radio was listening to that mid west sound shite like the Eagles and Toto.

What about the Buzzcocks? Best band ever to come out of Manchester in the 70's.

"You're awful, but I like you."

Some great calls there. Watched all of them. Used to be totally hooked on the Kenny Everett Video Show.

And The Naked Vicar Show.....the show that spawned Kingswood Country from a sketch they once did on the show.....plus, Noeline Brown. :thumbsu:

Some other TV shows, in addition to the ones you have already mentioned, that I recall getting a run in the TOD household as a kid - Welcome Back, Kotter, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, HR Pufnstuf, Catweazel, Land Of The Lost, Life And Times Of Grizzly Adams, Battlestar Gallactica, The Muppet Show, The Curiosity Show, The Love Boat, Wonder Woman, Six Million Dollar Man, S.W.A.T. (loved that show), Rat Patrol (ditto), The Streets Of San Francisco, Hawaii Five-o, Charlie's Angels, Little House On The Prairie, CHiPS, Fantasy Island, and The Gong Show.

Just the ones I can recall off the top of my head. No doubt I'm forgetting a heap.

But nothing beats 70's cartoons -

Groovy Ghoulies, Wacky Races, Batfink, The Hair Bear Bunch, Captain Caveman, Scooby Doo, Josie & The Pussycats, Fat Albert, The Beatles, Hong Kong Phooey, Dynomutt, Funky Phantom, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Dastardly & Mutley, Chatanooga Cats, Top Cat, George Of The Jungle, Underdog, Ricochet Rabbit, Speed Racer, The Archies, Magilla Gorilla, Dick Tracy, Justice League/Superfriends, The Great Grape Ape, Inch High Private Eye, Wheelie & The Chopper Bunch, Captain America, and a big favourite of mine as a little tacker, Cool McCool.

"Danger is my business."

"Hello Honkytonks!"

I was looking at the above list and thinking that TOD and I had almost identical tastes in TV but then realised that this is hardly unusual taking into account the fact that there were only four channels to choose from and you could pretty much guarantee that at any one time at least three of them were showing complete tripe.

In addition to the above, I was also a big fan of the Banana Splits (I wonder what the Dilly Sisters are up to these days?), Gigantor and Prince Planet.

Those Sleastacks from Land of the Lost were seriously scary - they still give me nightmares. As for Cool McCool, he was one very smooth Mofo.

What about that?

This isn't dial a song mate. Post something.

Best band ever to come out of Manchester in the 70's.

THEE best out of Manchester in that era was Paul Carrack. One of the best white rock vocalists of all time. Had stints with Ace, Mike & The Mechanics and I think even showed up on a few Genesis albums. Being bald, he unfortunately didn't look the part but buoy oh bhoy can he sing!

LOL..... calling Mark73 once again to alleviate any fears TFW has.

Ok, the first I'll live with, but

No love for Genesis?

If we're talking 70's, you've got to be kidding?

Yeah struggle a bit with Genesis..not my cup of tea. Bit too middle of the road for my liking.
