That 70's thread

That was probably the worst (in regards to violence) teams they've ever put out. I still think the South African team of 70/71 was better but that was definitely the Aussies at their best.

Yeah struggle a bit with Genesis..not my cup of tea. Bit too middle of the road for my liking.

They were so/so until they'd cracked the US market. It was almost like someone switched on a light. I know what you're saying, they were a little "Little River Band" early on, but they churned out some great material, and players.

What a great pace attack that was for Australia TTD.

The West Indies probably pips us in later years but that attack would stack up against just about anybody.

Lillee & Thommo at their peak, the under-rated Glimore and Tangles, was a pretty handy back up. I remember watching the last play of the day as a kid and then scorching out the backyard to send a few down on the buffalo mowed pitch, completely pschyched.

Gus Gilmour was an outstanding back up providing the left arm option and a more than handy middle order bat.

Max Walker could swing a wet brick. Outstanding swing bowler.

Throw in Ashley Mallets off Spinners with Dougie Walters medium pacers and I reckon that was the best balanced bowling attack I have ever seen play.

Bruce 'Roo' Yardley was clearly the premium Aussie spinner for mine. Played from 78-83. Awesome in the gully as well.

No love for Jimmy Higgs?:D

Everytime he'd come out to bat and they'd show his batting average everybody in the lounge would just crack up. Think he topped out at about 5.

He was probably the most underrated of them all. A great swing bowler, something the Aussie's could use now.

By all reports a fair footballer for the demons as well, played about 80 odd games at full back before giving it away to concentrate on cricket. Excellent sportsman.

Love the 70's Stones

Agree

Respectable...

Brilliant. The most underated Stones song.

Well now we're respected in society
We don't worry about the things that we used to be
We're talking heroin with the president
Well it's a problem, sir, but it can't be bent
Uh yes!

Well now you're a pillar of society
You don't worry about the things that you used to be
You're a rag-trade girl, you're the queen of pr0n
You're the easiest lay on the White House lawn
Get out of my life, don't come back
Get out of my life, don't come back

Absolutely agree with your assessment of this brilliant song.

Reading the lyrics above made me realise (for the first time, d'oh!) that it's one of those songs that I was always singing the wrong words to. I always belted out:

You're a rat-race girl, you're the queen of pr0n
You're a devious stain on the White House floor

How embarrassment!

Anyway, you left off the last line, my favourite:

Get out of my life, don't take my wife, don't come back don't come back ... Hey!

Yeah, HK Garden is a classic. Wouldn't say it pisses on the Pistols, though.

Now for the seminal Aussie punk song: Stranded by The Saints.
