That Leon Davis goal

Milburn got penalised in the finals series last year for doing exactly the same thing, umpire said it was 'dropping the ball' from memory.

Meanwhile, Westhoff did it in the grand final and wasn't penalised.

Who knows.

Milburn's was a throw. :D

How in this wide world that davis goal is being given the airtime it has i will NEVER know ... the guy puts the ball down on the ground and picks it up like a hot cake and its deemed OK ?

Gary Lyon correctly said it was a throw last night and the other tossers scoffed at him as if to say how dare you bring up the fact that the goal was illegal by the rules of footy ...

This is so irritating to me that we have the greatest game on earth yet its constantly marred by rules that are as flimsy as the paper they're written on.

Here we have a totally illegal handling of the ball yet we are excusing it because of the fact the guy was able to pick it up off the deck and kick a goal ?

Well next time Buddy takes a run and goes 16 metres without bouncing instead of 15 they better eFFing pay it !

what about the goal that hit the flag.....the rules state.....its a point, its ashame the umpires and the goal umpires dont know the rules......but hey its the AFL

All F......... Losers

right, because the AFL umpires are just a class above?? afl umpires are amateurs - no idea what they're doing, and its not their fault with all the conflicting rules and interpretations these days

Most people, umpires or not, could see that was incorrect or illeagal disposal, he had control the whole time, and a bounce requires even slight downward force, there was none, even Goldspink on SEN on the radio in the car before, said exactly the same! Anyway, it wasnt paid, and it was a great goal regardless!

What an awesome goal. Thanks to whoever posted that youtube clip.

That goal was probably good enough to sneak into Leon's top 30.:)

I thought it was a drop, the thing helping him was that the saints player didnt hold the tackle, so the ump could have thought he bounced the ball.... as the player hadnt held the tackle, it does help him.

Momentum took Leon over the line, if he only 'dropped' it without 'flicking' it back in play, the ball would have went out too! The guys a freak, he did what it took to kick that goal, and it paid off, good on him!

LEON IS A FREAK. who ever that nuffhead was who started this topic has no idea, what a freak goal? who cares if a little love throw was involved, if its debatable its good enuff. go to youtube and type in "leon davis", the amount of talent this bloke has is stupid.

It's blatantly clear to anyone who is not a Collingwood supporter that the way Leon put the ball to ground was not in line with the rules.

Why did he put it down if he wasn't under pressure to do so? I.e. He WAS under pressure, and seeing as that pressure was sufficient to prevent him from handballing it, he must be deemed to have dropped it.

Technically, with the aid of replay. One look and you could be forgiven for thinking the Saints player knocked his arm dislodging the ball.

He put it down because he was going to run out of bounds and the saints player was about to chop his arm dislodging the ball anyway. Nothing to do with pressure. All to do with smarts and summing up a situation.

Besides, you're allowed to drop the ball whenever you want as long as you are not being tackled. It's not rugby.
