Are you serious? no consistency? this is mind baffling yes there were a couple errors but when your second to the ball! your going to give away frees.... the bombers were first to the ball all night dont blame the umpires.


I do agree with Bartram though his clearly not good enough to be playing at the highest level.

I do agree with Bartram though his clearly not good enough to be playing at the highest level.

The frees that were being given at one end were not being given at the other (hence, no consistency). I'm not saying the umpires lost the game for us or anything (our abysmal third quarter did that for us) but it was no wonder our players were getting frustrated when they couldn't touch an Essendon player for fear of getting pinged, while at the other end we couldn't buy a free.

Even when we were playing well we didn't win the umpires' favour. I just watched the second quarter again and there were a few (as in, on several occasions, not just once where it may be forgivable to make a mistake) times when our tackling clearly deserved some reward but nothing was paid. Its not fair on the players to have them work hard and receive nothing for it.

I want to stress again that I don't think this is why we lost the game, its just that the lack of consistency really pissed me off last night. If your think that free count was justified though, that's fine; I don't want to get into an argument over the quality of the umpiring.

I've got a good attitude, maybe they should give me a game..

For me the night was summed up in the following issues:

a) Who was talking to Watts? Does not show much when you let a second gamer get run down with no talk.

b)He (Jurrah) is 50m out , i dont care if God himself is kicking the ball, have a few big bodies on the line to shepard it through or go for the mark!

c) Go to Davey when he is under pressure on the line, dont just let him have essendon guys charging at least shove him over the line .

d) Its called team work , nobody will care if your player kicks a goal when the team loses , if someone leaves there man to go to a contest and you are on the your own cover someone. Our marking up for sub par.

e) Bruce , i like you alot , but the first place to look shold be forward not sideways when you are in the corridor.

I just think we're over-reacting to this result.

Yes, there were some obvious problems with certain players and with marking last night, but it's not like these aren't all issues we've already known about long before now, I think, especially the issues with players like Bruce, Robbo, Whelan, Bartram (although the guy DOES have a lot of heart) etc. These aren't new.

And again, we had 7 of our best 22 out for this game.

Obviously our team is a 2/3-year work in progress, even in the most optimistic light, and I expected at the start of the season we'd have at least some 50/60-point defeats...

no hasn't escaped me in fact u might not realise that i go every week and take a very keen interest in their performances. going along quite nicely right now i have to say. what may have escaped u is the events of 2007 and what carlton did and had to do to get judd was actually cheating and that im saying we're not tanking and i know we're just shit right now

carlton cheat, I and everyone know this. Melbourne dont tank let alone cheat that obvious for picks. i know we're crap. What i was laughing at with this carlton supporter was that he is so blind and actually thinks that there is no difference between carlton and melbourne during both teams at being poor performers when quite clearly carlton were on a mission to secure judd in the middle of 07 and blatently threw games to get him

No one can seriously accuse us of tanking. We are 1-11 at round 12. Hardly tanking I would have thought.
We are no good - plain and simple. We have improved on last season but the last two weeks have been very bad and similar to performances we put up last year. It's a very young team we have and the longer the season goes, the more likely the young guys are going to struggle, both mentally and physically.
We will definitely get our priority pick, but it remains to be seen if that will give us #1 & #2 or #1 & #3. Either way, we are a long way of the pace and we need and deserve those picks to become competitive in the future, unlike Carlton who did tank after winning 4 games in the first 13 rounds in 2007.
