Also when did David Hale play 100 games for Freo?

Two dynasties (Hawks and Cats) had some of their superstars from the one draft, with other premiership teams getting some excellent talent. Not sure we'll ever see this again.

and we selected the memorable Barry Brooks........I can't believe he slid to pick 15

Just like the tornado outbreak in April 1974 was forever known as the 'Super Outbreak' - until the even bigger outbreak of April 2011, when it then became known as the '1974 Super Outbreak'. As soon as we get another one it won't be forever known as that.

The 2001 draft will have nothing on the 2024 draft.

Just ask Richmond and Carlton supporters.

If Richmond had those same 7 early picks in 2001 they would've ended up with:

Luke Hodge (1)
David Hale (7)
Brent Reilly (12)
Ashley Watson (14)
Matt Maguire (21)
Charlie Gardiner (23)
Mark Powell (28)

Which isn't exactly a mind-blowing return. Shows how many draftees are busts or just ok when even the 2001 super draft has so many misses early.

Last I checked our picks were in the 2024 shoulder deep draft. And they were:

1. Dustin Lalor
7. Patrick Smillie
12. Shai Hotton
14. Jonty Carey
21. Alex Trainor
23. Jeremy Armstrong
28. Tom Simiher
58. Jasper Breust

There was an article that came out around 2005 or 2006 where they'd spoken to a number of list bosses to ask them who they had ranked at Pick 1 in that draft.

From memory a few clubs had Judd at 1, some had Ball or Hodge and some even had Graham Polak.

Can’t remember much fan fare about the 2019 draft but it’s a handy list that is just about to enter their prime
Serong
Green
Young
Anderson
Day
Rowell
Jackson
Warner
Pickett
Coleman
Ash
Flanders
Weightman
Bergman
Georgiadies
Riccardi
Dekonig
Fredrick
Probably half a dozen that you could justify going number 1 pick.

they haven't managed a game between them to date

Judd was marked down because of his shoulder injuries but take those away and most would have had him at 1. Ball was brilliant in his first 3 years until OP cut him down.

It is an incredible draft, yet there was still lots of talent that was drafted early (Polak, Xavier Clarke, Sampi) that didn't reach their full potential due to injury or personal reasons.
