Morning fellow Tigers,

I'd like to think as much as anyone, I'm really encouraged by the improvement we've shown this year, the really competitive showings in all games, the organisation and development of our backline, the class in our mids and our vastly improved ruck division.

But it's Round 8, and we're 3-4.
We've beaten Melbourne, Port and Sydney (who are shocking at the MCG).

Win or lose Saturday, I can sense that this result is going to generate some pretty overblown responses, varying from "Top 4 Here We Come" to "Sack Hardwick, Delist <insert player name> NOW!!!!!"

Facts are this.

* We are a developing side.
* We're going to lose games this year, and not always 'honourably'. Sometimes we're just gonna get outplayed.
* Some of our players are going to make mistakes during a game, but it doesn't mean that they need to be delisted as a result.
* Occasionally our opponents are going to have good games too.

It does feel like 1994, in that we could clearly see what was developing, but also we got badly beaten in key matches against better opposition (I remember the last two rounds particularly well). We missed the finals that year.

So win lose or draw Saturday, I hope we remember where we realistically are at. I'm excited about the future, but hope we don't go too feral when the result is delivered - for good or for bad.

Totally agree, anyone talking us up as top 4 contenders is just silly...

Top 6 on the other hand... Well.

The draw will stop us thinking that.
Every game is hard.

Bombers had Brisbane at their lowest and then half a West Coast team.

We get teams on the rebound or in form for example St.Kilda.

If we pull a rabbit out of the hat this weekend and knock the bombers off, the damn wall will burst and this competition wont know what hit it.

IMO we will struggle to knock the bombers off this weekend but the boys will definately give it a crack. You only have to look at our back 6 in games experience to realise just how much upside this 2012 Tiger team has.

Strange thread. Ladder predictor clearly has us finishing third on percentage.

Although I did put us down for a ten goal win against the Hawks next week, realistically should have been five goals.

Who do we beat this weekend again?

So what happens if we beat Hawthorn the week after?

If you beat us and the Hawks, then it would be time to start getting pumped about 2012 prospects.

At this stage, both or our teams are showing improvement (or potential) and are out to prove a point. Should be a classic match on the weekend. Too bad Richo is not playing!

If Richo was playing, we would find a way to get ripped off.

McBurney would probably tell Richo one of his socks wasnt pulled up high enough and give away a 50 metre penalty denying the great man a goal from the boundry line that put us in front.

AFL will dig the rule book out and say the free kick was there because players used to always ensure their socks were up.

Anyone else getting a little concerned the lid has completely blown off the casserole? I'm happy we're improving, but jesus christ we're going to cop the mother of all pastings from everyone if we lose Friday.

I used to hope our players didn't read Big Footy after a loss, as they'd barely want to run out on the ground knowing the level of crap coming from our own supporters.

Now, I hope they don't read it, 'cause if they run out on Friday with heads like boarding house puddings, thinking we've arrived and finals are just around the corner - we're gonna cop a massive reality check.

I'll know we're really improving when we stop treating mid season wins like the minor premiership. What I was encouraged with was our attitude to the win on field on Saturday. No crazy celebrations, just a quiet confidence with the win.

Hoping the 9 year losing streak to St.Kilda is enough to stop these boys getting ahead of themselves.

Yeah Dave, hopefully the players are pretty much immune to all the crap being said around the media and on social forums.

The only danger is if they are quietly overly happy with themselves for last weekend's result, and lose focus a little. I can't really see that happening myself. As you say, 9 years of losing to this mob is nothing to be happy about, we should be roaring to go this week. The Freo game is more of a danger game for mine, psychologically speaking.

If we lose then so be it, if your worried what others on BF are going to say then your never going to win. Damned if oyu do damned if you dont when it comes to Big Footy.

I just hope our posters here dont go ape droppings if we get beat .. then again if we get flogged (highly unlikely) then I'd understand some venting.

As the club itself, I havent really heard much of them from the win against Hawthorn, think the team is hungry to win and just sick of losing. The media has played us up but that was always going to happen.

I think we are a really good chance tomorrow night and will be disappointed if we can't get the points.

I was more concerned on the mainstream media, and about the players, not the supporters. The Herald Sun just loves building us up and cutting us down. Win or lose, we sell papers. Would hate to see the players ride the same rollercoaster, based on what is written about them. I assume they all read the press. Would take a fair bit of discipline to ignore it all.

Fair point, think it just goes back to how hungry is our team for success, I think they are proving they can play good footy, hunger can drive teams to achieve.
