Surely there's serious concerns about appointing a guy who's only past managerial experience (besides Swansea) is at championship level. I'm assuming Liverpool supporters want to see the club in European competitions within the next few seasons, but I really can't see this guy getting them there on the basis of his current record. Good luck but they should have stuck with Kenny or at least hired someone who's actually familiar with Champions League football :thumbsu:

The word is Liverpool wanted a young manager...so looking at managers who are in the late 30's to mid 40's most would have a weak record compared to the older managers. Definately a risk, but if he works out we will have a long term manager

AVB!?

Far better option, look at his Porto record.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but apparently Hulk to Chelsea deal is 90 done. Would be a huge signing to go with Hazard and Hulk is more of a winger.

Kind of came out of left field this news.

With mata, ramires, sturridge, marin, de Brunye .... and possibly hulk signing , Chelesa have a surplus of wingers.

Liverpool's issue is they don't look forward, they look back. Right now they are an upper mid-table side, with a squad to match. they've been successful in the past sure, but they are playing catch up. But the mentality of the fans is amusing. Hodgson goes, bring back Dalglish! Dalglish goes, bring back Rafa! Half the problem is so many ex-Liverpool nuffies in the media with no clue. Oh no, we couldn't have Martinez, even though he's somehow kept Wigan up for three seasons playing football. We're too big for that. Has anyone called Pep yet?

I really hope the fans give Rodgers a chance and don't jump on his back if he doesn't win the first ten games (bring back Souness!). He's a talented young manager who has done things the hard way in his career. The squad isn't good enough to inherit his style and immediately challenge.

Scott Sinclair, Ibrahim Afellay, Salomon Kalou have been quickly link by Caughtoffside

Nice cheap options...Kalou as a free agent must be a priority?

Hamit Altintop is also linked as he is looking to get out of Madrid

A couple of players I want us to target are Cavani, Marin, and Tello...these 3 together with free agent Kalou would solve alot of attacking creativity and scoring problems
Kalou isn't very good mate. Liverpool could do a lot better.

Oh...i got the impression he put his contract signing on hold once rogers was announce as the liverpool manager. Because the uk media are reporting liverpool will steal him...if he had signed, perhaps a out clause with Rogers leaving. He did state he wants to play under Rogers.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty much a no-brainer that it'd happen until I saw the article above

If M'Vila comes to Arsenal, I will be one happy man. Might just be the signing that will convince RVP to stay.

You are either joking or clueless.

Should never had retired. There is a reason why players like Iniesta rate him as the best midfielder in the game.

There is a reason why England were desperate for him to play internationals again.

Class of the highest order. Although I hope he's gametime is less then last season. If this happens it means we have finally got a player to replace him.

Giggs is the one who should look at retirement.

The key correction to the Iniesta point is that the statement is in the past tense. He was among the best midfielders in the world back in his prime. That prime being a few years ago at this stage.

Yes, Scholes made a large difference when he came back to United last season, but he was a short term solution to a long term problem, and the only reason he had such a big effect was because that United central midfield is absolutely woeful. Let's also not look past his age. How much shelf life does the guy have left in him? It would be horrible to see a united stalwarth struggling his way through a season at well below par.

But don't fool yourself. Scholes, right now, is not a world class midfielder. He just happened to be the best midfielder in a poor united squad. He is far from what that side needs if they want to challenge for European silverware next season. They need a player with the same skill set at Scholes, but with better execution. He'd have been a liability in most of the other big sides in the premiership last year, and I stand 100% by that statement. Having been one of the best players in your position in the world doesn't make you immune from declination of skill. It's like saying somebody should sign Zidane because he was probably the worlds best midfielder back 10 years ago.

Lazy journalism. Caughtoffside for starters is a ****ing horrible website for football rumours. They will literally run anything.

Affelay has been linked with us before but no idea if Rodgers likes him. Sinclair plays for Swansea so of course he will get a mention and Kalou has been linked with us in the past and is now available on a free so of course he gets linked too.

Heard nothing about Altintop.

Marin has already gone to Chelsea, Cavani is dream land, as if he would come to us. Maybe back in the mid 00's but not right now. Tello another dream you would think.

As for the ones you mentioned. I dont think we will be in for any of Altintop, Affelay or Kalou.

Only Sinclair holds any weight as managers do like to bring players with them. Sinclair and Joe Allen could be options.

BUt we need to think a level down from guys like Cavani. Their is a ton of talented players not playing at top clubs that we could poach which would improve us. Gaston Ramirez would be nice, Elm too.

Obviously it's a huge risk. But a lot of rival managers, ex players and media speak very highly of him. Guess we will now find out what he is made of.
