New TV deal is apparently 80%+ higher than the last one.

Bad news for those hoping for those expecting FTP to have any impact, but could also see a few clubs loosen their pursstrings in expectation of a windfall in another year or two.

Giroud and Podolski to Arsenal - are doubts about RVP staying growing? That's two quality strikers right there (I know Podolski can play LW). That said, I'd assume guys like Chamakh and Park to be off-loaded - are Arsenal just spending more than we are used to?

Yes this is they way I view it. We must start to clear out the deadwood in the squad, guys like chamakh, vela, bentdner etc will all likely be sold this summer so naturally we must have a few striking options come in. And arsenal seems to finally be doing what should have been done 3-4 years ago

This is the bit that I found most interesting:

"This equates to at least £14m more per year for each football club, with the bottom team in the league from 2013-14 onwards likely to receive more than the £60.6m Manchester City earned this year for ending the season as champions. Each individual televised match will now cost the broadcasters £6.6m, up from £4.7m under the previous deal."

I don't think it'll have much of an impact in terms of the Premier League as everyone's income will obviously increase proportionally. This new tv deal will alleviate deficits to a certain extent and that will certainly assist City in meeting the FFP regulations. For me the key feature of FFP that's going to help the likes of Arsenal, United, Tottenham and Liverpool is going to be that City and Chelsea will no longer be able to blow £100-150m in a transfer window as they have in the past, effectively bringing them back to the pack (not that City will need to spend that much, the squad they've assembled will suffice for a few years).

I think the biggest benefit of this new TV deal will be seen by those clubs competing directly with Barcelona and Madrid in the Champions League who due to the skewed nature of their own TV rights deal were raking in £150m per year each compared to the top PL clubs who were only earning £55-60m, and this will begin to close that gap.

The impact of spending £100m in a transfer window isn't £100m.

Say you buy four players for £25m each and pay them £150k a week. Give them all four year contracts and the impact on your FFP accounts is only £55m for the next four years. If you presume that the players bought are replacing existing players the wage component is even less than that.

If you presume an 80% increase across the board on domestic TV revenues (compared to 2010/11 amounts) the top side will earn £33m more under this deal. The bottom side will earn £16.8m more under the deal.

If City or Chelsea want to spend £100m and still meet FFP they will have no problem. But we haven't spent that much in a transfer window for years now, and have no intention of spending that much now, FFP or not.

FWIW the deal £60m a year earned by the top club includes £19m a year in foreign broadcast income. That I believe is not part of this deal, but is up for renewal soon. Presuming a similar increase the champions in a few years can expect to earn over £100m a year in broadcast revenue. Last year City earned £55m so the impact on that will be huge.

FWIW when the new deal comes around I expect we'll be comfortably in FFP profit anyway regardless of this deal.

Oh well that's good, the babyblue 1/10th of Manchester can sleep soundly knowing moomba's crunched the numbers and has it all sorted ;)

Can't have any of that discussion of football issues on a football discussion board now can we?

And PMSL at the rest of the post.

they're practically the french us, and are building towards something massive in their own right. signed lavezzi about a week ago for 25 mil, they have money to burn.

Still baffled Milan turned that money down. Silva's without a doubt one of the best centre-halfs in the world but his 27, limiting his re-sale value.

Their excuse for not selling him is strange. They said it was because they couldn't replace him, but that doesn't mean the squad can be improved overall. If they sold him for 46m, they could've bought Mehdi Benatia, Marek Hamsik and Olivier Giroud and still probably had leftover money.

It's another Kaka deal. Milan were quite happy to sell, but once it became clear Silva wouldn't move to Paris they wanted everyone to know that they wouldn't have allowed the sale. Like with Kaka back then, I'd expect Silva to move to another club next summer if not this.
