Mate ..he said he wants the number 10 role, which is infront of the striker. Central Attacking Midfielder...so if he were to go to Chelsea we'd look something like this:

Mata hasn't been playing on a wing since the start of the season. He has been starting behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1.

What confuses me is why Chelsea are gunning for Hulk then? From what I've seen of him (admittedly not a whole lot) he plays as more of a winger than a striker, and yet you apparently already have a strong combination of Hazard (probably), Ramires, Kalou and Mata playing that sort of attacking role.

Kalou's out the door, but yeah even still, I'm not sure why we're going after Hulk either.

We should be chasing Modric harder than Hulk, which doesn't seem to be happening at this point...

hulk's incredibly overrated. greedy and enjoys a good dive. used to being the big fish in the (smaller) pond. cant really remember a good performance against top opposition from him. when lavezzi is available for 25 mil max, and hulk 10-15 more than that, it's ludicrous to go for him.

Not surprised. The move probably made the most sense for him. He has the ability to play in any of the front 3 positions behind the striker. In Chelsea he has not only the opportunity to boss the CAM role, but to go out to the wings depending on the new managers plans. Versatility like that is not something he's likely to get at United or City, and the chance to become the pivotal man in the side is probably something he's only going to get at Chelsea. United is very Rooney-centric, while City have a plethora of stars to choose form. Even in a club like Arsenal he'd struggle to be the star man being RVP. While Chelsea have the likes of Mata, Lampard, Torres, Terry, who are all start players (I still back Torres to come good at Chelsea), I think it is the only club where he can legitimately be the big man in the team. He's used to being the big fish, and that's probably the position he plays best at, so might as well exploit that for all it's worth.

Don't think United should be too disappointed. It looks like Kagawa is joining them this summer, and he has been absolutely fantastic in Germany the past two years, and his absence was definitely felt when he got injured in the latter half of the 2011 season. He could be a big player for them in the coming season. I still feel United aren't really addressing the need for a genuine play making passer of the ball from deep. While Sneijer I believe is a bad call for them, I think that Nuri Sahin (Dortmund bias clearly showing) could be a relatively cheap aquisition from Real, as he's not getting much game time.

I feel Kagawa will be a ok signing. Not the big fish we need though.
We have played our hand though so now we must sign a big fish worth around the 30million mark.

Small rumour that we may try to sign Drogba as a free agent. Would be a Fergie classic.

Would be a very unnecessary signing. Droga offers nothing new for United. Yes, a handy player, but he's on the way out. He's on his way to an MLS/Chinese/Middle Eastern team where he can earn the megabucks for the last years of his career IMO.

It also doesn't tackle the problem united have in their midfield. United look solid up front and out wide with a number of very good players. Just a lack of talent through the middle of the park, and very little in terms of back-up in central defence when Vidic is injured.

Drogba would be a good signing. Him and Rooney up front would be great.

We need a big midfield signing that is for sure. Maybe back in for Sneijder but more likely Modric.
