Don't buy this. Both Ramirez's agent and the Bologna chief confirmed Liverpool had made a bid of €20m for him, but that it had gone on hold while we changed managers and they waited for potentially bigger offers. Whether we get him or not is another question entirely, but you don't make a bid like that if you apparently don't have the money to spend. I dont think any of us know for sure how much FSG are going to be investing in this transfer window beyond speculation originating in tabloid articles.
The last window when we supposedly used up all their money only ended up being approximately a £30m outlay for them as player sales covered the majority of it, so it's not like they've put an enormous investment into the club beyond the initial purchase. I don't know how much is in the transfer kitty, but Werner & Henry have talked the talk and said on many occasions they have the £££ to compete with anyone, let's see if they walk the walk this summer. It's absolutely pivotal for the future of the club that they do because while we're down now, there's no way in a million years anyone associated with Liverpool will accept that as the norm with the resources at their disposal. If they were happy with it then they wouldn't have sacked half the coaching staff. People talk about being delusional, it's not delusion, it's ambition and we're not going to get back to the top with this pathetic "accept we're a mid-table club" attitude some people are peddling. City were in the Championship 10 years ago & look where ambition has got them.
If anything, for me it would be poor business sense not to invest in this window to jump start the club & give us that last little push into the top 4. If they don't, it's risking another season without Champions League football and the revenue that comes with it both in TV rights & more commercial investment in the club which I'm sure is not what FSG want.
good post...and yeah I agree that it would be crazy for Liverpool to scale back transfers base on 1 poor year. The club is one of the richest in the world and they need to trust in their new manager to make the right deals this off season. Clubs like City have elite talent sitting on the bench where we need elite talent to start...its a no brainer for me that we need to get a couple of big signings.
I just have a feeling they are going to be conservative in transfers this off season...but would be very happy for that to be proven wrong
