Interesting that WC had the lowest payments to clubs at 9.47 million is this a reflection of bad crowds?

well they were allocated 3/5ths of bugger all in the club future funding program, and they recieve nothing from Etihad signange or pourage rights. AFL payments to clubs have nothing to do with crowds.

West Coast, fewest juniors out of the entire league. Oh boy. That is a problem/

Are you really suprised, i am not, i get tickets from time to time for Eagles games, the crowd is middleaged, no new families get a look in at Eagles games.

It is a bugbear of mine, WA needs a third team :D

A disgrace IMO.

Looking at GWS and GCS, you would have to surmise that their ratio of kids to adults members is indeed very good, this bodes well for the future IMO. It appears that many families have bought memberships.

WCE and Freo have extremely low rates of kids, Freo have only 10 more than GWS, and WCE have have roughly 3,000 less junior members than GWS.

This is ridiculous, and incredible at the same time, it means kids are squeezed out in favour of Adults in Perth at Subi.

WA needs a third team.

In the AFL distribution image, why did Brisbane get less thans $1.2mil in the other distributions? given this is the amount every club got each year in 2007-11 TV deal period when the cash component of TV monies went from $405mil to $690mil and the AFL called this a TV bonus distribution not a base distribution, and this $1.2mil is paid to every club, every year, is continued on with during the 2012-16 TV deal and called a TV bonus or other distribution??

In the equal part of the future fund payment every club gets
$500k in 2012, $575k in 2013, $650k in 2014, $725k in 2015 and $800k in 2016.

In 2012 only GC, GWS, Hawthorn and WCE got the minimum equal component. The other component of the future fund is called the disequal component which provides for facilities improvement monies, stadium deal subsidies and other subsidies eg s**t timeslot compensation. In 2012 Freo got a $100k dis equal payment, Adelaide and Carlton got $500k, Essendon got $925k and everyone else got at least $1mil extra disequal payment from the future fund. The biggest amount of disequal component was Collingwood $2.475mil ( which is on top of the $500k equal component) - I think it was for Lexus centre or the building their oval, North $2.4mil, Bulldogs $2.37mil, Melbourne $2.37mil, St Kilda $2.115mil. There were 5 other clubs who got between $1mil and $1.99mil.

The other distribution is mainly the $1.2mil of TV bonus monies. Not sure why the AFL doesn't include that in base distributions because its not going down and each club will receive $1.2mil during the 2 TV period 2007-11 + 2012-16. The other big component of this amount, especially for the Melbourne clubs is the payment of AFL members where they ticket the club support membership box. Of the approx $400 adult membership fee, the AFL pays the clubs $138 for each adult member with club support. So Collingwood got $138 x 9,496 = $1,310,448 + an amount per concession member and an amount per junior member.

From the AFL annual report Other Distributions also include - Other payments to clubs included amounts for ground buyout agreements, distribution of the AFL’s signage rights at Etihad Stadium, prizemoney, travel subsidies and promotional funding to help clubs develop the game around Australia.

The GWS and GC get amounts outside this specifically to develop their new markets which according to the accounts was another 11,553.

In 2013 only WCE and Hawks got the standard equal future fund component of $575k. I'm not sure why it says GC only got $500k and Freo got $600k - $25k extra over the standard payment seems almost useless.

Or it needs a 60,000 seat stadium to allow the WCE to offer junior memberships. At least 10,000, maybe as many of the 13,000 of WCE's 17,000 non-access members are people on the waiting list. How many of them were kids when their folks put them down on the waiting list??

Anyway WCE's loss has been Freo's gain for some WA kids who liked both teams. They were able to get in to watch Freo.

What people don't tend to understand about the 10,000 or so on the waiting list, is that everyone of them has the option of buying 4 memberships when their number comes up.

I dont know many people on the waiting list, bar one bloke who has been on several years and is after a family membership ( 2 x adult and 2 x kids ) but ATM he is only counted as one member.

I reckon most people on the waiting list would be after 2 ,3 or most likely 4 memberships.

Do the Eagles have in reality a extra 40,000 people waiting for memberships.

And FWIW ( and i know i am flogging a dead horse ) but a 3rd team would mop up those people and a hell of a lot of others who could not be bothered registering but follow football, people who don't follow the Eagles or Dockers for whatever reason and people recently arrived in the state willing to give footy a go.

I agree with the sentiment, and think WA should get a 3rd team, but the fact that WCE has such a big waiting list while Freo still has free spots (or did until recently, I wont claim to know the current situation) suggests there wont be as much flow to a new club from those who can't get to a game.

Created the following image to show where clubs had a higher or lower percentage of their membership from one group or not.

Dark Red >2% less than total access
Light red between 0.5% and 2% less than total access
Light green between 0.5% and 2% greater than total access
Dark Green >2% greater than total access.

Two tables, on for all clubs and one for only victorian clubs as the non-victorians have unique situations. As a very crude analysis, North and Hawthorn seem to have younger profiles, Melbourne and Collingwood have more full paying memberships (Collingwood obviously have lots of everything - just even more adults).

No, WA needs a new stadium and access to cheaper seats

Interesting the level of our payments from the AFL given the dividend we also pay to WA footy and the state of our facilities

Why not a 3rd (4th) team AND a new stadium?

More supply (more teams/bigger stadium) is the thing most likely to lead to lower prices.

And why would you do that? You'd end up likes Melbourne with too many teams. Have a look at our sponsorship Dollars in these charts. Now add in 2 more teams.

A stadium with 15-20 seats allowing for SOME more cheap seats will assist

If that's your choice, then suck it up and stop whinging.

Many teams and people get to see the game for reasonable prices, or few teams and people get shut out/have to pay heaps.

You don't need MANY teams.

An extra 20k seats gives the chance to offer more cheap seats and maintain solvent clubs

OK. 20K more seats = 20K more people get to see a game each week.

and even 1 more team in said 60k stadium means another 30K seats each week (on average).

It also means the stadium can be paid off more easily.
