A Tippett family reunion.

Can't see Joel getting taken in the ND myself. Great athlete and good size but does not offer enough I think. Best case I think is he gets taken as a break in case of emergency mature aged rookie.

Pick 45 - Port Adelaide - Jake Koladjashnij - Launceston - 193/87

Time to grab a project tall and it hurts to leave another player in the pool but I am playing the game this time and hoping he gets through to 52 even though I rank him higher than Jake.
Jakes biggest problem is that at this point in time he just doesn't influence the play often enough, when you break down the individual parts of his game they all come up reasonably well so without having seen him play live it is hard to tell if he doesn't read the game well enough, is reluctant to impose himself in the game or doesn't work hard enough offensively on the spread. On what little I have seen it is the developing his game on the spread that is his major issue.
OK now lets get to the positives. For a key defender he has closing speed so that will help him against the bigger forwards. He is quite agile for a tall guy, he has good endurance and a 14+ beep is a very good starting point for a tall rebounding defender. He has a solid right foot kick, particularly over the short distance and has vision so he cand use his skills to full effect. When marking he can actually mark at full stretch which is a big plus, it is amazing how many talls can't mark with straight arms. He is poised at the ground level contest and uses his strength, he needs to do more at ground level but when he does get involved he doesn't look all at sea. He holds his feet in the contest and has solid handball skills. Another thing I like about him is when he gets the ball he moves it on quickly which helps launch transictions even though at time he probably need to lift his eyes a bit more to look for longer targets. Again he is capable of taking a contested mark and can spoil. Upside is we end up with a Wakelin, downside we end up with Blee back on our list.
Jake looks like he is a competitor and with exposure to the AFL environment hopefully he will blossum like his brother did when he entered the AIS system.

If you are worried about taking Fuller at this stage you are seriously overestimating this draft.

Fuller's main problem is that he doesn't get enough of it but even just having him out there is going to elongate zones and allow more space for others to work in. He is an okay all around footballer (nothing special) with a great kick when he uses it. I think he can be coached to speed up his play a bit.

I had him pegged for my pick just before 60 as a Guerra replacement. He certainly wasn't in contention for my pick at 38. I've still got some midfielders for those picks but I just don't see them getting there and thought Fuller would be there to fill a need.

# 47 Nth Melbourne Matthew Sully

Write up to come

Well you got me back there Roos ..... he was one of three I was going to take. He is very under rated I think. Can walk in and fill a key position and his development has been super. He has real upside. Only a few teams he would walk into but he will be terrific depth. I reckon Cats, Blues and Swans would be after him and he is another like Lobb and Gartlett I reckon clubs will be trying to figure out where they will be able to grab them so they can assess what they may have to spend.

Monocle I rate Sully higher but Tippett is a type I reckon the swans would like. Will just do his job and do it well.

Give me a few minutes to make a decision.

Fuller is Guerra in many regards.

Pick 41 - Geelong - Rory Lobb
Position: Ruckman
Height: 205cm
Weight: 98kg
Born: 9.2.93
Home club: Swan Districts
The AFL have moved away from selecting rucks in the ND, so I am really unsure if many clubs will role the dice on Lobb. He is raw and that says upside, but he does possess a few good qualities athetically he has it and he can take contested mark and is also competent at ground level for his size. His tap work is solid and given more time it will develop and he has that catch phrase "basketball" background.
Does not mind contested ball work even if he is stick thin.

Geelong will have to wait 4+ years to even consider judging how this selection is panning out and you always worry this is aorund the time another club steals your hard work.
(Jacobs, West, Mumford....)
The Lobb and Vardy combination could have elements of the great modern day ruck combination. Lobb does have an okay forward line ability, so you're hoping that develops and becomes a weapon.
I would be making him take some boxing lessons to learn hand eye coordination, it worked wonders for Sandilands. It may also help him learn how to handball the ball.

# 48 GWS
Darcy Lang / Geelong Falcons / 181cm / 79kg

Whose Darcy? A very unlucky boy. Was firing at the start of the year and turned up and put some very good performances at the champs before dislocating his ankle and breaking his fibula. The good news is reports are he has recovered really well and I think will have a few clubs wondering where to place him. If they get real comfortable with his recovery he could be a bit higher than this. He is as hard as you get them and thrives on inside contested stoppages and ball winning. He holds his feet, has clean hands and his composure are the things which stands out for me as he tends to wait a little longer to make his decisions and execute then which he generally does v well. The good thing about Lang is that he can go on the outside as well where his endurance, agility, speed and ball use really are weapons. He has an ability to really run and carry and create space for himself and others further afield and sometimes i wonder if he wont be tested as a HB as well because he can go 1:1 but he can hurt on the outside as well. He actually reminds me a lot of Trav Boak in his draft year. He tends to handball as much as he kicks which always interests me because he has good vision, uses the ball on both feet really well and for a kid his size he has good kick penetration.

Why Darcy? He is best available at this point. I guess more specifically players that can play inside and out I think are going to be highly valued as well as those that have a bit of positional scope. GWS can do a few different things with him. I think he could also be used off BP, HB, wing as well as the middle so he has a lot of scope. To be fair he is probably clever enough and has the tricks to go through the forward line as well so he has lots of scope.

Who else? I dont pick for a bit yet so happy to give a couple of names for discussion who I seriously thought about (bar 1 who am hoping will still be around at #74);

Cutler - He will go by my next pick and I really would have liked to select him but I am drawn to Lang and some of his very draftable attributes.

Sicily - I think would be a fair chance around here. He has a couple of issues but think he has real upside. Guys his height and with their athletic abilities are always on radars. When they are smart, have strong and clean hands and can work through HF and the middle then I think they are even more valued. I expect him to be a riser in the next week or two.

Apeness - Sounds like I am on my own but he is around 30-50 for me. He is fundamentally different to Nankervis and other rucks because he has the proven scope to be a ruck / fwd and the others simply are not. That makes him a valuable type as all lists want kids like this and he is one of the very few who offer that in this draft. He is a genuine forward prospect because he has strong hands and is a beaut kick. He also a competitive bugger who wants to win and I rate that because I want a ruck / fwd who has a bit of go in him and wants to hurt opponents.

West Coast, Pick 49 - Charlie Cameron, 1994, 178, 70Kg
Very quick forward, who is hard at the contest and delights in putting on forward pressure. Has also had stints playing across half back last year in the WAFL and I believe he can transition to the midfield.

Nice pick Snoop. I rate Darcy Lang as top 30, injury free he would certainly be much higher than this. You also mentioned the other two players remaining that I rate alongside Lang in that top 30 - Cutler and Sicily.

Was tossing up between two.

One hasn't been mentioned thus far, so I'll hold off.

The other is sure to be snapped up and I'm very keen on completing the trial-real deal double.

Tom Cutler

I think of him as playing a similar position to Dylan Grimes for the Tigers, but with much more athleticism and rebounding ability.

Will stop the tigers using Batchelor and Dea as undersized third talls at the very least.

Full write up to come.

snoop, Lang probably push for top twenty if you ignore the injury. I don't know much about it but it sounds pretty severe.

Great work guys, really enjoying the deferring views and discussions.

I'm quite surprise that none has picked up Sicily yet. He reminds me a lot of Fyfe (don't shoot me down for that comparison), I know he doesn't have the inside game but in terms of upside, Sicily definitely has more than most in this draft. Interested to see where he lands here and in the real thing.

Personally, I would be happy if the crows at 23 went with one of Giles (great work Thunder), Hewett, Sicily or Marsh.

I view Sicily around the 35 mark. Could go higher as does have some talent
