Brisbane & the aints did the best IMO

I can't wait to raid the lions list in a few years again, it seems they have picked up some good ones. I almost feel that we should send a development officer up there to work with them!

Why would you want to stall their development like that? Can't think of the last Carlton draftee that developed on schedule. There is a reason you are so attracted to poaching from other clubs.

So true it hurts. Maybe we should scrap development altogether and channel our funds towards Brissy for the next Henderson/Docherty. Vossy is still calling the shots at the trade table right?

what ever makes you happy in your dreams...not even a Judd in the prime of his career could get you far into finals... but yeah, keep up that wishful thinking that you can raid other clubs to fix such a long standing rabble of a club which not even high picks could fix :p

Haha, by the defensive tone I'm not sure you caught quite what I was throwing, but fair enough.

Despite us having only one pick in the top 40, the player we got could easily have gone top 6 or so if not for injury rumors. Lennon joined our first full training session this week so the rumor was just that, a rumor. Top few in the draft for kicking skills and thumps it 60m and marking is elite. Goddard like player so very happy considering lack of top end picks. Lions big winners, "if they stay".

I think Richmond did well to pick up Lennon, but I don't think he would have gone top 6. Especially when it was clear that both Sharenberg and Aish were going to slip a bit. Like I said, they still did well to get him.

You could be right but it really doesn't matter how good the top 6 are if any player after the top 6 proves in the long run to be just as good. Be happy if he even gets close to the Brendon Goddard comparisons. http://www.afl.com.au/video?guid=599255

I can see it. He can play the lead-up role up forward, looks suited to playing the rebounding, intercepting role across HB and showed late in the year that he can play in the midfield and rack up the possies. Is a similar size to BJ and like BJ, isn't very quick, but has a thumping kick and is very strong overhead.

I do agree with what you have said. Was only saying I don't think he would have gone top six even without the supposed injury. Like I said, you guys have done well to get him.

How is Lennon at all like Goddard?

In the months leading up to the draft, like all players they have a plays like section in their profile and every right up about him compared him to Goddard. Watch the highlights reel.

Agreed was probably never going top 6. Many times with these drafts recruiters follow the media which seems stuck on the same top few for 12 months and not allow for players that jump up the pecking order. Must admit i didn't know that Lennon hadn't tested too well at the combine, but that is surprising watching the highlights reel. Anyway, after 3 finals in 30 yrs, we tiger fans cling to anything that remotely resembles a good player. :D

I never get how ten players could go top five.

If you really don't, the answer is differing opinions. Ten is obviously an exaggeration but 18 teams probably had Boyd in the top 5. 16 may have had Billings, 15 Aish, 14 Scharenberg, 12 KK, 10 Bontempelli, 3 Salem, 2 Freeman.

That's hypothetically eight players in different teams' top five rankings, and it's entirely possible that three clubs outside the top five got players they viewed as top five talents.

Nope. Roos stated on the night it was simply a numbers game. 'While Kelly would be good, we can get 2 players for 1'.

I loved how everyone conveniently forgot the Melbourne traded pick 20 in that deal as well, so it was actually a 2 for 2 deal (though I still think Melbourne did quite well with the trade)
