I still don't know why Dumont slid so far. Roo's already have a potential top 4 midfield but they have just strengthened it with two fantastic selections.

Was interested that the Port and Crows supporters rated Dumont pretty highly, I don't really know shit about him. His highlight package looks good.

People who are saying Collingwood won the draft are delusional. Scharenberg and Langdon are good picks for where they were picked, Freeman I'm not sold on (as are a few others) and Marsh is extremely raw. Brisbane did well, as did Carlton. GWS did well as expected.

Hope Cavarra and Battersby get rookied.

I think 'early' winners = known names who slid a bit or a lot, for whatever reason. Sometimes that translates with hindsight, other times it doesn't.

Think the Saints drafted perfectly to develop the core of a new team.

Glad we grabbed Langdon as an intercept rebounding type. Obviously they were not the rage with no Battersby or miller going

Templeton?? Tsitas??? Battersby?? Wow. Don't even recall seeing Conlon? Thought at least 2 of them would go top 40

All for One

Some interesting names left over for the rookie draft.

Rucks aplenty such as Conlon (if his body holds will be a steal), D & maybe F Fort, Jones, King, McCulloch, Smith, Steffe & Thurlow.
Mature KD in Tippett & Sully, younger ones in Toohey and F Fort.
Hourigan highly rated KF (not for me though).
Prowse and Le Grice as KP swingmen - Toohey can also go forward. Maybe Sean Tighe if you want someone mature.
Lots of mids - Battersby, Tsitas, Herbert, Favretto, Templeton, Bennett, Bourke, Heppel, A Christensen (x2!), etc etc or if you want to look mature Cain and Thorpe are around, or younger state league guys like Pograncic, Nelson or Waldhuter.

Brisbane - How could you go wrong with that many live picks? Getting Aish and Taylor will really help their midfield.
St Kilda - Building the core of a very good midfield.
Collingwood - Can't complain with Scharenberg, Freeman i'm not sold on, Marsh and Langdon could become anything. Only time can tell if the pies are the winners or not. From a glance it really does look like Brisbane have taken the cake this year.

Don't like what GWS did, too many talls. (Unless they want to send Patton home to us)

Dan Hannebery also went as pick 30, in the 2008 ND! Don't want to jinx the guy, and not that Hannebery was (as far as I recall) a slider (he just didn't generate as much interest as he should have, in a world where recruiters were/are obsessed with beep test and 20m sprint results)—but on what he's shown so far, you'd have to rate him a better chance of making it than your average pick 30. That is to say, your average pick 30 with the exception of the 2008 ND pick 30!

Surprised that Hartung slide to Pick 24 since there are plenty of examples of players who go Top 10 on their beep tests alone. His skills are very good by foot also, so it seems like a steal.

Thought Carlton (Giles big slide, Holman slide) and Brisbane (Aish and Lewis Taylor slide) did well from the draft.

Not sure with Essendon's picks. Merrett has a nice left foot and is apparently 'quick', didn't see it live, however not sure about recruiting brothers at the same club. Look how it can end - Chad Cornes got virtually thrown out of Port, and I imagine it would've caused some friction between the coaches and Kane. Fantasia looks to have nice pace and neat skills. Lacks some serious strength though and his height isn't ideal (comfortably under 180cm).

Happy both players can run with it and deliver it with precision, but both will need a couple of preseasons under their belt. Maybe a game or two each next season, zero chance of any further. Looking forward to seeing how they develop in the reserves.

Maybe it did. But would you not prefer to look at the combined 100s of games they played, and a premiership they won together. I see no negatives of having brothers play together. There are many more examples of brothers doing well in the same team than not. Zac Merrett is the fastest decision maker in this draft. He was a steal at 26 and both he and Jackson have footy smarts you cant teach. With our limited picks, I think we done ok. Fantasia, while small looks lively and a real goer. And Dalgleish brings the speed and hopefully can continue to develop.

Yeah for sure, could easily look at it like that. In-fact I have in my head. :thumbsu:

Playing devil's advocate at times can be handy and dampen expectations IMO.

Brisbane did very well. Don't know why GWS needed McCarthy? Very happy with the Saints 3 picks, and considering the trading too, our list is finally moving in the right direction.

I was a bit surprised you guys didn't go for more of an inside mid. You don't have many young ones outside of Shiels or Hallahan, do you?

Add Woodward

We upgraded Langford for that purpose as well. If you're talking long term then also Jed Anderson and/or Garlett have played in the centre.

Woodward is in the wings but he has had two knee reconstructions now so who knows.

Aish and Taylor were great steals for the Lions. Gardiner should be ready by the time Merret, Goose and Patful start to wind down. Cutler/Robertson kind of just replacements for Yeo and maybe Doc. Fairly happy with Brisbane's result.

Can anyone see GWS turning Cam McCarthy into a tall defender? That must be their plan with the back-up of KPF's they have now.

I hear Collingwood won the draft again, many of our fans judged the players footballing abilities as they walked up to receive their jumper.

If I was Collingwood I probably would have gone for Aish/Salam and Lennon over the two they took. Scharenburg is a risk but if it works out then great. Freeman was a need pick, Bucks wanted more runners on the outside.

He finished the year with a bang. Pretty exciting player to watch. Any pick at 58 is speculative, but would be worth giving a chance and seeing how he goes. I think Pearce was more speculative than Grey. Pearce has potentially more upside, but Grey has shown more and will take less time to develop. So happy they both got picked up though :thumbsu:

Lachie Neale was a steal at pick 58. Sounds like Grey could be a gem that follows in his footsteps.

I only watched the 3 minute packages, but Freeman didn't impress me at all and I rated KK the best running back, but as I said i Only watched the highlights, I think there was a clear top 3 (Boyd-Kelly-Billings) and a fairly even 7 or 8 after that, I don't think we got ourselves a slider anyway.

at first i rated it as:
1) pies
2) saints
3) brisbane

but on second thought cant split. i thought brisbane really benefited from some sliders. finally some karma their way

thought kangas did well

big loser is probably freo.

wa teams continue to pass on good talent for inferior wa talent
