Pretty good crowd considering Essendon can only stay 7th and Carlton have only won 7 games for the year. Great weather and Saturday arvo would of helped an extra 10,000 people through the gates.

As expected in the 30-35k range
Haven't seen the Port v Freo crowd
In terms of Collingwood's attendance's Collingwood again finished 1st in attendances but it is very concerning the amount of Collingwood fans not turning up. Last night was the smallest home crowd attendance for a Collingwood game I have ever scene at the mcg. The pies normally have a hard core following of 30,000 but last night we would of been lucky to draw 20,000 Collingwood fans and this is a club that has 80,000 members (60,000 in Victoria). I think the pies fans new what the end result would be a Collingwood thumping and also the fans I believe are voting with their feet with how the club in being run and coached ATM.
Happen's to all clubs tho Richmond are the best example of this.
You could make a case that this year Collingwood's crowds may have even been bumped up by their pretty good start. It will be very interesting to see, if next year, they don't start well and appear to be struggling for finals early in the year how that affects their attendances.
Also, Hawkk I'm pretty sure if St Kilda had played more games at the MCG during their recent successful period you would have seen a lot more big crowds. Pretty much all of our blockbuster games were still played at Etihad. I reckon if the St Kilda vs Geelong game in 2009 was played at the G it would have been a good chance of drawing 80,000, the hype around it was huge. I also think some of the games we played against the Bombers, Blues and Magpies at Etihad would have got at least 60,000 if at the MCG.
I think people make the mistake of throwing St Kilda's drawing capacity into the same basket as that of North Melbourne and the Bulldogs. IMO we are more on par with Melbourne and are still capable of drawing very good crowds on our day.
Even with 6000 missing Kardinia Park looked pretty full. The Docklands crowd is a disgrace on a Saturday night esp with North in the finals.38,209 at Patersons Stadium
24,659 at Simonds Stadium
17,174 at Etihad Stadium
the North Melbourne game could have been expected though. Melbourne fans hate telstra and most supporters have given up hope(again) and North are resting players and dont really care about the result. no hype.
North making finals probably made the result worse.
fair enough. it really should have reached 20K despite that.I dont like excuses
For an AFL game on a Sat night in Melbourne on a great night weather wise no game at the G makes it is a very bad look as North have supposedly 40,000 members Melbourne 35,000 + walkups = Medialion Club and you can only get 17000 is a joke. This match surely would have run at a massive loss to north and the AFL .
I think North will also drag next weeks final against Essendon down - it will be lucky to get 65,000
My belief is that whilst it's alarming, it's not surprising. Their last 6 weeks went from bad to worse. The supporters know it. When Richmond were at 3-10 and going through the motions, at that moment why would you bother going. I think we have forgotten what it's like to have a Collingwood playing without hope. It's been a premiership contender for the best part of 9 years. It's crowds have fallen away as a result. If they had the year like Richmond had (reverse the good then bad), it's unlikely they would have reached the 1 million figure. Collingwood is no different to any team. Once supporters lose hope they stop going to games. We just had a reminder that Collingwwod is not immune from this.It was a Hawthorn designated away game which should have boosted the crowd significantly - the turnout from both teams was very disappointing. The fixture was never going to draw 70k but it should have drawn 55k in light of this.
With respect to Collingwood's season draw, they fell about 210k short of their 2010 peak. They're still number 1 comfortably but their falloff post the Adelaide fixture was alarming
I think 72-73,000 for Hawks V Geelong and 63,000 for North V Essendon. The Friday night match is the football purists match of the 2 being two real contenders. The Bomber fans will probably bring along 50,000 with a healthy AFL and MCC turnout of Essendon supporters for sure to boost the figure.Finals fixtures (especially week 1 and week 2) mostly under deliver from a crowd perspective

Essendon v North is the Series Ticket Game which should boost the crowd by 10000 or so. It's hard to get a read on how many this will draw at the MCG as they haven't played at the ground since 2002.
Qualifying Finals typically draw 10% more than typical home and away games (think 60k at Haw v Syd last year, 85k at Haw v Coll, 73k at Geel v Haw, 68k at Coll v WC, 64k at St K v Geel) so Haw v Geel probably should draw high 70k / low 80k (on the basis that their home / away games drew 80k and 72k)
That said its a Friday Night game and Geelong's crowds are typically much lower on Friday Night.
Hawthorn v Geelong - Mid 70,000's
North v Essendon - low 70,000's
...and everyone will complain about all the empty seats in the Ponsford Stand at the Hawthorn v Geelong and North Melbourne v Essendon match.
At least they won't have to sell every 2nd row in the bottom tiers like they have had to for some recent years finals at the MCG.Essendon v North is the Series Ticket Game which should boost the crowd by 10000 or so.
