Autopsy The 2014 National Draft - All picks in OP

Especially since we're likely to get first or 2nd crack at the "elite mids" at the top end of next year's draft and will have so much cap space to go after the Dangerfield's, Treloar's and Shiel's of the world in the next couple of years it won't be funny. The massive money we would have been offering to get a Jeremy Cameron if we didn't get McCartin (and maybe Goddard) can now be directed at them. How much cap space will Carlton have to outbid teams like us? They are in an extremely precarious position.
Why would they move to the Saints and snub a bigger club with an established training base?

You're wanting to build another one after making a disastrous move to Seaford.

Carlton has attracted more names than St Kilda in the last few years without paying overs in the 2012 draft.

Back to back spoons and another few low finishes before they lose Riewoldt who starred for a terrible team. Too dependent on their veterans who drove a culture of tolerating bad eggs because they can play.

Steven, Armitage, Billings (Always confuse him with Aish who was picked in the same draft...LOL), Dunstan, Savage, Acres, Ross, Wright, Saunders, Curren, Newnes, Webster and Templeton isn't a quality list of mids and flankers.

Id take steven acres billings and dunstan over any young blue mid.
judd will be gone in 2 years, daisy sadly wont ever be any good so itll be an aging gibbs who I love and mrtagmurphy.

Imho I'd back the saints mids as it stands now

Judd will be gone in one year.

I usually bag the blues for making a mess of their 1st round draft selection , But im kind of starting to feel a bit sorry for them lately

They could of gotten BB with #28 but decided that DVR was better than Goddard & Laverde

Did you want to trade pick 21, pick 25 or picks 21 and 25 for Jaksch who chose Carlton over St Kilda?

Wouldn't shock after you traded a first rounder and the Jaksch selection for Tom Lee plus a second and third round pick.

It appears the Saints missed out on Jaksch or Laverde. Their pause was almost as long as the Suns who picked Garlett after missing out on Lever. Not that confident.

Long way back for the Saints who have a weaker midfield and list than Melbourne.

Is that the same Tom Lee that Kevin Sheahan said Carlton would take with their first pick that year, such was his form?

Huh, guess it is.

Strange that we gave up pick 12 for Lee, 24 (Nathan Wright) and 43 (Josh Saunders) when the AFL's National Talent Manager felt that Carlton would be happy paying pick 11 for Lee alone.

But we are way off topic, tell us about Blaine Boekhorst and why he is a better pick than Jayden Laverde or Hugh Goddard.

Ive been hearing alot about how being 21 years old means he is more AFL ready. Does it concern you that he is listed as being 8kgs lighter than Laverde?

If the club are selecting players based on being 'AFL ready' does this mean the Footy Operations Dept of Carlton feel the list is close to pushing for the top four again?

This would explain why you might prefer ready made options over a player that might need 2-3 years of development.

If so it seems a strange choice to target these types while also moving on your #1 small forward in Garlett, #2 KPF in Waite and #3 inside mid (behind Murphy and Gibbs) in Brock McLean.

So if we are all wrong in our bagging of the Boekhorst pick please, explain to us how he helps your club more than Laverde or Goddard.

Armitage, Dunstan, Billings, Steven, Acres, Newnes, Templeton, Webster and co are actually a very good up and coming list of mids (with already proven players in Armo and Steven).

All of those young guys have star potential (Billings, Dunstan, Acres, Steven, Newnes, Templeton). Who do the Blues have?

I think you'll find your list is not much better then ours. If not worst. If we're being generous, you mid/flankers with possible star potential are Menzel, Docherty, Buckley, Cripps, Viojo-Rainbow...

Oh wait, I think I'm forgetting Boekhorst...

But the thing is blind fred, Carltons list is WORSER than Melbournes & Ours, were both 2-3 years into our rebuild. Mick thought he could win it. Hence why you overpaid Daisy. Long way to for Carlton, how long have you been rebuilding for again??? Geez it's been a long time..

You're not ahead of Melbourne, let alone Carlton who have a core of senior players who re-signed this year.

There are other ways to rebuild than resorting to cutting a McEvoy to bring in Dunstan and Savage plus a pick upgrade. This would be similar to Carlton letting go of Henderson, Kreuzer or Gibbs who are required players. That's a rebuild by bombing your list back to the stone age. Your list is in a very poor state and in for more pain if that's your MO. This could send the message that your better players and leaders are expendable because you believe you're a long way off.

Will Savage walk like Frawley and Griffen because you value him less than having picks one and two in the draft?

More players are interested in joining Carlton than the club who is chasing Wayne Hughes to scout players like Dale Thomas.

Neither side can win a flag in the next 4 years ( either can mine fwiw)
So in 4+ years the question is which playing group excites you more?
Do the blues have someone to replace judd, gibbs to a lesser extent, the guns of the team
do thecsaints have anyone to replace nroo or joey montagna?

Fwiw the saints recruiting in the past 2 years imho has been exceptional for building a "solid decent" team in about 5 years
