Ill run the risk of sounding negative but it's kinda a positive

Losing a couple of our talls is going to happen whether we like it or not. We don't have room for even half of them in our best 22

But think of the trade value for the ones that want to leave. If sometime in the next 5 years we have a couple of our boys (Gorro, May, Day or co) that need/want to be traded, you would almost be guarenteed first or second round picks for them.

I think its important going forward to keep the top end picks coming through and it seems to be the way Scotty Clayton and friends do things. It will keep us at the top for longer

Good and fair call Sunny.

I think it is inevitable that if all these "talls" live up to their potential, it is unlikely they would all squeeze into the same side. Therefore they will look at other clubs for opportunities.

However it looks extremely healthy for the spine/rucks for the GCS in the next few years.

Anyone hear Prestia on SEN? Here's a link.

Key points for me:
  • Prestia hasn't missed a session so far this pre-season.
  • Bock has been part of the full-ground training drills for a couple of weeks.
  • When asked what the aim was, Dion without hesitating said finals footy. Seems a real belief that they will get there!

This is where Scott Clayton has excelled in putting the list together in the "talls" who are 195cm plus.
1. Nicholls
2. Smith
3. Gorringe
4. Dixon
5. Lynch
6. Thompson
7. Schade
8. Hall. J
9. Leslie

These guys are all young blokes who will only get better with age. Most big units take until 23-25 years old to reach their full potential.

I think that 2016-2017 is a realistic time frame for the GCS to win a premiership.

I suppose the problem as always will be keeping them satisfied with games/salary.

It is going to be very interesting to watch these blokes develop.
Only 2 of those have shown anything yet. Steady.

Dixon, Lynch, Nicholls, Smith and Thompson have all given strong indications they will be very good players. Not sure where you got 2 from. We would get significant trade value for any one of those I have mentioned and that was the sentiment of his post I think. We wont keep all these guys.

I guess I meant that only 2 have proven themselves as reliable, career talls. Those being Lynch, Thompson.

Obviously Nicholls and Dixon have given us glimpses, but no AFL club would pin their hopes on them just yet.

We might not hold onto them all - but I think that's secondary, as they will most likely not all make it anyway.

Yeah that makes more sense. Dixon will if he can keep his body intact. Nicholls too showed a lot last year. Enough to convince me he will be a top ruckman.

Yup I hope so.

I think it's really interesting on Nicholls because we were all so impressed when he came in and dominated. However, prior to that, I had thought that Smith was more than serviceable. Currently you'd have Nicholls ahead, but Smith is no mug.

Hall’s recovery goes to extreme lengths.
Although expected to ease back into full training, Hall still expects to make a strong push through the NAB Challenge matches and win round one selection against Richmond.

“I have been in rehab for the full pre-season but the fitness staff here have put together a good program.

“Hopefully this week I will return to the main training group, and further progress my skills and be ready for round one.”

Not a bad predicament to have! At least if Smith comes back and Dixon gets injured we can actually play both of them which will work well IMO. I dont mind Smith as a resting forward as he is tall and quite agile. Before 2013 I would not have said this but he started to show some forward prowess last year.

HF: Martin, Dixon, Matera
FF: Smith, Lynch, Hall

That could work.

Hope the club keeps us up to date with this. It would have to be a huge issue if he missed the next six weeks with just this soft-tissue injury? I realise calf injuries can linger, but that seems excessive.

Ideally he just misses a week, at most 3-4. Puts him on track to play at least one practice game.

When I saw in doubt for round one my heart sank. We need that little nugget. He is the sort of player that could get us over the line against Richmond who lack contested ball winners.

Yep, if we miss Prestia for any decent length of time, our finals chances go out the door. Worst case scenario is that he never gets over it for the whole year.

You read 'in doubt for round 1', but fingers crossed that Davidson is just playing it up a bit. Especially since he had yet to do any scans on the injury when this article was written.

Fingers, legs and arms crossed.
