Great turn out! The a league, union and nrl all have had slumps in crowds during thwor respective seasons

Yep the A League only had 6148 last night at Suncorp Stadium Brisbane which holds 54,000 not a good look on TV for the code that is supposedly going to be #1 soon according to Gallop and Lowy.

Great turnout and the AFL will be thrilled both by the crowd which locks in round 1 for next year with Richmond at home and by the result itself. With Collingwood looking like a very ordinary outfit they will hope to hang a resurgence in Victorian attendance round the necks of the Tiger Army.

Even with rain its a terrible crowd for a one team town that wasnt that long ago getting 30,000 + crowds.
Brisbanes season has been derailed due to horrid weather, disgusting pitch, rescheduled mid week games and topped off with shocking performances and there hopes of finals dead. Central Coast are worst team to watch live. Melbourne Victory even dropped to there lowest and first crowd under 20k v CCM last Friday night at 18k and even I wished I stayed home they make a match that bad to watch.

Was very surprised by last nights crowd. Impressive turnout even though the game was rather dull and really was never going to be a classic. I was tipping 75k max if lucky. 70k pass.

Talked to many who watched on the TV and they all said the game was dull and boring!
At the Game I thought the atmosphere was pretty awesome!

Yep lets hope the weather is fine and a big crowd rocks up.
Interesting the WCC Final could only get 93,000 yesterday to a clean MCG so in that context the AFL GF is massive having achieved over 100,000 two times since the Commonwealth Games upgrade.Of course the all time AFL GF record is 121,696 for the 1970 GF

3 times, so its actually better than that

2008 - Geelong v Hawthorn 100,012
2010 - Collingwood V St Kilda 100,016
2013 - Hawthorn V Fremantle 100,007

Aside from 2009 no Grand Final has drawn less than 99,000 since 2007

The atmosphere did actually seem pretty flat on TV and the game wasn't a great spectacle. Maybe it's just one of those things where the TV was unable to capture the atmosphere?

Not surprised at this, C7 block most of the crowd noise out so we can hear their Rolls Royce commentary team, the main objective of their telecast.:$

It's actually quite sad, as the crowd were loud, extremely into the game, and as I am watching the replay now I know exactly what they mean!

Someone at 7 has been watching ESPNs horrid coverage of the European Soccer, MLS and FA Cup over summer. They drown the crowd out and all you hear is the rubbish American commentry.

We can say with certainly now that Round 1 Carlton V Richmond is now locked in for years to come.

The home team didn't final last year and are not expected to final this year. The away team produced an improbable second half to last season before falling at the first finals hurdle. Neither were close to the bookmakers pre season odds for expected top 4 finish......huge turnout.

Average over the past 8 years has been 74,630. I think the Blues bought into it this year more than previously and I think the AFL and both clubs can expect a par of between 75,000 and 80,000 in future.

Its the third time in 7 round 1 matches that the Carlton and Richmond have pulled 80,000+, 3 at 72k+, 2 at 60k +. Id have thought that would do it already to be honest.

Can you imagine the crowd likely to show up for Carlton v Richmond season opener if both teams were actually up and firing and realistic top 4 chances?

This game works well as a season opener, can't argue with results like this.

Have no doubt that being richmonds home game next year the result will be similar, as fuelled with new hope and optimism we will always turn up round 1
Question is will as many blues fans pay for an away ticket as richmond has in 2013 and 2015
