Have you ever played sport? If so, did you only ever try 100% if you were motivated by the coach or liked him?
I have and neither was a factor.
I think you are missing my point. Part of the role of the coach is to get players to buy into a vision, particualrly in a team sport such as footy. Whilst talent is also a major factor in success, there also needs to be a common belief. The 2002 Collingwood team is a good example of what can be achieved when players are motivated as a team.

Okay then, where is the evidence (specific examples) where this is not happening at Collingwood?

As professional footballs motivation should come from within, especially on game day. Really don't think motivational speeches by any coach will influence the players once the siren goes.

I said it is something I would like to see, as in this season, as evidence that the team is improving.
Err, no that is not what you said.

Err, no that is not what you said.
Clearly I have said something that annoys you Maggie. This is what I originally said:

"I'm not too concerened with the win/loss record this year. I want to see evidence of a side who play for their coach."

The evidence I am referring to is a high level of intensity and motivation to win. Not for Buckley as such, but inspired by him.

I hope that clarifies my opinion for you.

They are professional athletes, if they can't motivate themselves to be the best they can be they and have a drive to win they should'nt be competing at a professional level.
Complete nonsense, motivation isn't a switch you can turn on and off whenever you want. Sometimes you need to look for external sources to find it. Have you ever played team sport? Coaches speeches can easily change the mind set of the team

I suppose that without being in the inner circle, we as supporters can only guess at what is happening in the club between players and coach.
There has been some major changed in the last three years and I have seen us play some gut busting games and some as if the players wanted to be elsewhere. But I have also seen this happen to other clubs as well.

I don't know whether Buckley is going to be successful (I hope he is), I just don't see how anyone can judge whether they are playing for him, whether he is a good motivator, has shared his vision or that the players have bought in to what he is trying.
However, I also have no idea whether the Scott brothers, Hird, Roos, Lyon, Hardwick or Longmore have it.
Clarkson has achieved quite a lot but I think that his senior group of players are more advanced and has more of them than we do and that helps.

On a personal level, I am prepared to give Buckley until the end of the year before I start questioning the clubs ongoing support of him.

I also support Bucks as coach this year, and barring absolute disaster, in 2016 as well. I do have some misgivings about his ability to get the players to buy into his philosophy but I am hoping to see improvement as the season plays out.

Played junior footy right up till under 18's, why? What's your point?
Complete nonsense you say, I think coaches motivational speeches have an impact maybe for first 5 minutes, after that its the players that need to do it for themselves and their teammates. All of the great sports stars of the world are huge self motivators, that's why they are the best.

My support continues after this year only if I see improvement. For the record, until I saw us play against the dogs I was quite confident that would happen but I have to admit that match shook my confidence a bit. That said, I'm more than happy to wait and see in the season proper.

I saw some of him and know he stood out especially season 1. His 3rd season he looked great preseason but dropped form again. There were some rumblings about him being offside with Voss. Not sure how true it is. Look I hope he makes it, he was at school with my kids so have a bit of a soft spot. I do worry whether he has the desire and is hard enough. We will see this season. He just isn't best 22 for us yet for mine but will get a chance to change that this year. Ball is very much in his court for mine
I knew Karnezis pretty well, i may have said that or it might be obvious I'm not too sure..i might know your kids or maybe there is a major plot twist and you're my dad :p joking bout that last bit I have a family connection with Karnezis, i didn't go to that school.

edit: *former family connection, as in i don't have that connection anymore so i don't have inside info on him or anything like that. I knew him before he was drafted.

We should be appreciating the 2 idiots who were part of a great team and for the contributions and memories they gave us . Loved watching those boys in particular Thomas . Hopefully the youngsters can reach the heights of those that have left or prematurely retired like Brown at 29 or Davis after all Australian .
Fair point, I was a bit harsh. But dirty on them for not being professional - putting a surfing trip ahead of going in for ankle surgery before pre-season (Thomas) and being late to match time (Wellingham) does not smack of professionalism.

It's the method you use to win the ball back from the opposition and having done so then moving it forward in order to score.

Ours is loosely based around a "full court press" where we pressure our opponent into mistakes and then attempt to capitalize on the loose space created away from the contest. It's a flawed gameplan because we often commit too many numbers to contests we don't win, we don't have the fitness to execute it with any great consistency and we don't have the skills to execute when we do manage to turn the ball over.

It really isn't a foreign concept, but it's one that our coaching staff have failed to develop in their time in charge. Amazingly we stumbled onto what works well for us early last season, what I would call a "soft flood", but incredibly have moved away from it post bye last year. The soft flood waswhere our midfielders folded back and do most of the rebound 50 work what it meant was they didn't have the same pressure on them to hit the scoreboard, but it also meant we moved the ball better in transition.

I could write a bloody thesis on how we move the ball and what we try to do, but at the end of the day whats the point? Most on here don't want to delve that deeply into things and going over it isn't goingvto help Buckley improve our "gameplan".
Fine, you stated what you see as the gameplan. Those stating that there isn't one couldn't identify one if they fell over it. That was the point of my post.
I've been privy to the plan of one particular club and can say that what many complain about in here is definitely part of the plan for that club. I've been onto their board and have had a chuckle about some of things that they have identified as negatives when in actual fact, it's what the team wants to do. Can't say much more.

The truth is Bucks does have a game plan. I got access to a transcript of his pre game speech against the Dogs. I have posted it below.

Buckly Speaking Pre Game

"Ok boys, we have been working all pre season to get this game plan down pat. I want to see it in action today. My very own Chaos Theory game plan. Where we do what nobody expects us to do which will lead to unexpected results.

Now. Game one against the Hawks I was disappointed. We had a large spread of goal scorers and a flowing game style. THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. Now today I want you all to kick it to Cloke, no matter what happens. Clokey! if you lead then you have a better chance of marking the ball. This goes against Chaos Theory game plan, so today I want you to stand on the spot and wait for the ball to be bombed on your head. Do not look for space.

Guys there is every chance that Cloke will get triple teamed and the ball will come to ground. Faz, Blair, Varcoe, the opposition is going to expect you to be front and centre so make sure you are not there. That goes for all you guys. I don't want to see anyone at the fall of the ball because that is too predictable. If no one is there it is going to confuse the hell out of the opposition.

Sinkers. You listening mate. Good. You are one of our worst kicks. I can't say you are the worst because so many of you guys are terrible kicks it's hard to tell who the worst is. Great recruiting on my behalf for my game plan. Now Sinkers the last thing anyone is going to expect is someone who is as putrid a kick as you to take all the kick ins, which is why I want you to take them all. Guys listen up. If I see anyone who is a decent kick take the kick ins I will lose my head. Tay, go for your life mate. If your in the area I have no problems for you to chip in and take a few.

Goody, Maynard, Mateit, Abbott you guys know that NAB is usually the time when young guys and new recruits get given the opportunity to show their stuff. Therefore you guys will not be playing. Chaos Theory requires me to do the unexpected. Sorry guys.

Now I don't want to harp on about how disappointed I was with the NAB 1 game against the Hawks what with all that flow and linking up etc but I don!t want to see it today. Guys if your going to handball to someone have a good look first. Make sure your team mate is flat footed and has an opposition player breathing down his neck before you handball to him. Its brilliant. The opposition is going to expect you to pass to the guy who has made space and is moving, but your going to confuse the hell out of them by giving off to the flat footed team mate. It's genius I tell you.

Faz, really disappointed with your effort against the Hawks. You were taking contested marks, kicking straight, tackling etc.How is that part of Chaos Theory. Listen mate your on your last chance. I want to see a lack of effort from you today. I thought Maxy made it clear to you last year but you don't seem to want to learn.

Ok guys now get out there and do what I wouldn't expect you to do. Make sure the coaching staff and the supporters haven't got a bloody clue about what we are doing. We have worked hard all year on this and now it is time to put it into practice. Now get out there and show me what you are not capable of."

Support will be there but I think attendances will drop away. You lose interest watching games like the Bulldogs one. I know I did, I stopped watching for first time since about 99.
