When Clarkson took over the Hawks they were second last on the ladder
In his first season they finished 3rd last (winning record of 22.7%)
In his 2nd season they finished 11th out of 16
In his 3rd season they finished 5th out of 16
In his 4th season they won the premiership (his overall win loss by this time was 52%)
pfft, try beating 3 top 8 sides for the year, now that's what I call a real improvement :D:thumbsu:

Despite the fact I have said numerous times in this thread that I don't hate Buckley at all but it just hasn't worked. But go ahead and make your own assumptions without checking your facts.

Despite the fact its such a serious injury that he might play on Friday, no, I don't like seeing our captain hurt at all. I think its sad that Buckley isn't a good enough coach to say to Pendles 'champ, you're too important to us to let you risk playing any further, sit the last couple out and get right for next year hey'. Instead he knows he needs him so much he lets him try and play. I would have thought that's the saddest part, but I guess if you're a blind Buckley supporter it isn't.
When someone has a differing opinion, they're "blind". All this does is lower the credibility of your own argument. It's a common fallback like saying "fact" and "proof" when there is neither in the statement.

That's true, but I was referring to previous posts where I stated that I don't hate Buckley.

We obviously disagree about Buckley's ability as a senior coach, but it doesn't really matter in the end because he'll be coach next year. But next year injuries won't matter, it'll all come down to results.

I have already posted that rumour about Kennett sacking Clarkson was bullshit.

I still subscribe to the theory we would never have won in 1990 without Mathews. He was a COACH!

Like you said we will just have to agree to disagreel
I actually wasn't referring to Kennett rumours.
There was two times that Clarkson was very close to being relieved of his post. I have heard that from totally impeccable source. Regardless Dunstall was a huge supporter.
Regardless he survived and the rest is history.

Agree Mathhews was huge in getting us as one.
Helped having Daicos in glorious form, Millane the bull, Brown supporting Daicos.
Then Morwood so underrated and the recruits of Russell and especially Francis.
All under pinned by Tony Shaw leadership 101!
But agree Leigh is a super star.
BEST coach we've had since McHale (apologies to Kyne)

Gee, how did we get from Clarkson to Mathews?
Had a good group of players around him, few major injuries, just a matter of team selection.
Was annoyed when we replaced him.
His achievements at Brisbane cannot be understated but gee he had the cattle.
Agree.
Mathews was a super star. Would have kept him anyway circa Shaw era.

You've nailed it Jaspar.
I respect ALL opinions on these matters.
The arguments and opinions are always better expressed when done with willing respect.

My summary of the Bucks situation is this:

After 5 years I am still not sold on him as our senior coach. There are definitely things i have liked, and our best football under him, even with the current young list, has shown to be good enough to beat/compete with the best. There have also been a lot of things out of his hands that have gone against him. (Injuries, the "rat pack", Keefe/Thomas and Robbos "report" this year to name a few).
But our worst has been deplorable, and on show far too often.
Right now we sitting right at the bottom (or just below) of the range I expected us to be in this year.

Pre-Bye I was convinced he was done.
Right now, i have seen enough (just) to give it one more year... But how many times can we give "one more year"?
Also comes down to who else might be available.

I don't believe this. Last night at dinner at a restaurant in East Melbourne, Mick and Nanette were there. Right now, at a cafe for lunch in East Melbourne, he's back and this time with that other destroyer of Carlton, Buttifant.

Giving me indigestion.
Ask him if he thinks bucks is doing a good job

Well you do both live, (and clearly dine) in the same suburb!

Nah, I work in East Melb, and live one suburb over! I do see MM a lot, but also the Richmond players and Chocco, who get their coffee in another nearby cafe.
You should take a wander over to The European in Spring Street, it a 'who's who' in there every day.
We play spot the celeb, sporting celeb, politician, actor.....

i remember when mark twain used to post in this forum, he used to say "never let the facts stand in the way of a good story about bucks"...
