Harmes looks impressive, finds the football and lays plenty of tackles.

I have never seen him play, does he use the ball well?

This week against Essendon could be a good game to let him loose.

11 Tackles is the thing that will get him in the side

Surely Harmes is a chance of replacing Bail or M. Jones? He couldn't play any worse than those two did on Saturday, and there's a fair chance he could adapt to the AFL well like Stretch and ANB have.

Love your work Grimlock, thanks for posting this each week :thumbsu:

And I love your work mate - he went to the effort of posting the stats and your message has more likes than his!

Thuper.

Does anyone know who this J.McKenzie character is? Every time I see the Magoos' stats he is killing it. Could have a budding superstar on our hands here - he just needs a good run in the side.

Good to see Jayden 'Garbage Pail Kid' Hunt kick 3 goals as well.

Stat sheets look good when you don't have clangers or DE% on them :$

If you scrub your kick 2 metres, pick it up and scrub again, that probably counts as an effective disposal...

?

Welp who else has been scarred for the next few nights? Those cartoons are horrendous.

Used to collect them when I was a wee person. I thought they were great.

Explains quite a lot.

A lifetime of living in trash cans and appearing on children's television has embittered you beyond repair.

:D Thought they would have been Dez's vintage too. Good cards they were.

I say this in all seriousness, im at work, in the office, girl who works with me looks at me like im a madman as I thumped the desk and laughed uncontrollably for 10 seconds straight after reading this.

Genuine LOL. :D

Some of your finest work.

I tend to agree that numbers aren't the main concern just yet with Newton but I think he lets himself down with his defensive efforts from Roos' pov.
Bloody hell. Is there anyone who's defensive efforts doesn't let himself down from Roos' pov? Ffs.

What's wrong with that , 1 person not putting in defensively can ruin the whole structure

Have a look at our average points for column. Not EVERY player needs to be a defensive machine. In fact, surely looking at the best teams in the comp, they have a healthy mix of defensive robots and players that, you know, kick goals for a living. PS. I'm pretty happy with Newton's 8 tackles along with his 2 goals from the weekend.

I totally get that if 1 player is out the whole thing breaks down yadayada but the fact is, we still need players that kick goals (and not just Hogan and Garlett). And I can't say I've particularly notice Newton not defending. Have you? Just seems that the fall back excuse for Roos dropping players (whether this is the supporters' perception or the reality) is that he's not up to scratch defensively. Pfft.

IMO The attacking part of our game relies on the defensive efforts.

From what I've seen so far this year the plan is: mass numbers around the contest in the middle/at half back, win the clearance, then run/(slingshot??) upfield to waiting forwards Hogan/Garlett (Kent if we had him, and ANB lately).

We've looked our most exciting this year when there is manic pressure on the opposition in there D50 and then move it quickly to our F50. The QB 5-in-a-row was probably the most impressive manifestation of this.

If the defensive pressure isn't there then the opposition works free and runs around us. By putting heaps of pressure on their ball carrier it forces their HBs to come to the contest to help out, thereby creating the much needed space in our F50.

I may have some of that wrong, just going from memory about what seems to have worked best for us this year.

Your right, but I think Roos has always valued team structure over individual performance
In other words its great to have a guy who can unleash every now and then and win a game, but he would rather blokes who he can rely on in the heat of a finals game where it all comes down to one on one and tackling pressure etc

Hi guys

Today's Casey v Port Melbourne game is being broadcast live by Casey Radio on 97.7FM, streamed at caseyradio.com.au or accessible on iPhone/Android via the TuneIn radio app.

Proceedings will kick off at 1pm with the first bounce at 2pm.

Cheers

Horrendous day for football, Casey will be a quagmire. Not expecting to take much out of it, although next weekend could be wet too so it may give the selectors an indication of who can stand up when it rains...

CASEY 1.4 4.6 8.8 10.9 (69)
PORT MELB 0.1 2.4 2.6 2.8 (20)
Goals: Casey Scorpions: Hunt 2 Michie Riley Scott Gent Grimes Morris Jones Papley. Port Melbourne: Pearson Lisle.
Best: Casey Scorpions: Michie Jamar Gent Riley Hutchins Panozza. Port Melbourne: Tynan Gilmore Pinwill Dickson Wooffindin Noonan. At Casey Fields.

I'm pretty keen to get Jamar back in the side. Michie also top two for the Scorps two weeks in a row. I like him, he works hard and gets his own ball and uses it pretty well, but just think he's too slow for what we need right now. Having said that, if it's wet again next week he's probably worth a shot.
