Back to the point I made yesterday and was shouted down because "spangher didn't play". I still maintain that box hill stacked their side, so I looked into it
Box hill team:

Average: 4/11
Number of players with 0 seniors games: 3
Number of players with equal or more seniors games than reserves: 5

Casey team:


Average: 2/13
Number of players with 0 seniors games: 12
Number of players with equal or more seniors games than reserves: 3

So how do those statistics demonstrate that BHHs stacked their side. They played two rookies, one of those Conor Glass, a category B rookie with just a handful of AFL games.

The figures you have quoted are evidence of the fact that Hawthorn had a lot of injuries, something like 7 or 8 players debuted this season and the flow on was that opportunities opened up in the BHHs firsts.

Wait wait wait. How does that demonstrate depth? If box hill has such a strong list why didn't both sides make finals? Why would you need to be playing senior players in the development league, if your depth was so amazing?

Why did they do things like play spangher in two games for the final weeks of the season to qualify him for finals?

My gripe is with the shit rules of qualification for development finals, quit taking it as a personal attack. Your side stacked. It did it first week of finals too.

Was talking about it with the missus and a few of the others in the last round when spangher spent all of two minutes on the ground in the development, and then came off went in the rooms, and came back out with the seniors.

They used the rules to their advantage. It's a shitty local footy tactic. Rules need to be amended.

Yeah i agree. I suppose they are there to help the AFL clubs with development, but its a pretty dog thing to do. What about the poor bastards who did all the work during the year not getting to play finals!

That's why I was glad casey didn't do it. Plus it's hard when your seniors actually make finals

Meh, you could say the same about some of our lads playing for Casey's seniors - played more games in the AFL than the VFL this year but squeaked in for qualification. Plus the speculation Oliver was actually left out of the round 23 game v Geelong in order to qualify. I agree the Spangher thing was a rort in order to get him ready for AFL finals which is a bit dodgy, but dropping 'in between' players who yoyoed in and out of the side back a level once the team above is out of finals contention is a pretty time honoured tactic. And I struggle to have a lot of sympathy whenever it gets complained about at any level because the only teams it affects negatively are those that still have a side playing finals at a higher grade.

Oliver was really the only one that you're referring to
People complain about it because blokes who work their arses off in the ressies all year, end up playing blokes that are just a grade above, who didn't do the bulk of the work. It's not exactly great for the team doing the stacking either "hey boys, i know you've played most of the year in reserves and got us to finals, but we will be dropping you for x senior players". It's shit at local footy, and it's shit at this level. 2 game qualifications for finals is farked.
