Time to put this ridiculous thread to bed. The grand final was won. It's over. There may have been some incorrect umpiring decisions but that happens in every game. Most dog fans were and, still are, enormously happy with the result and think threads such as this are laughable. If it makes a handful of Sydney and other disgruntle supporters feel better to present these pathetic conspiracy theories, go your hardest. Bulldogs fans don't bother responding; there's absolutely no point in trying to change the minds of these poor deluded souls.

I'm just here for my body's daily sodium requirements.

Bulldogs won because of geography and baked in advantages given to 10 of the 18 teams.

Have now been told by a confidential and reliable source that Pannell was let go after it was revealed that he was betting on Bulldogs games. He was given the option to fight the matter however risk being named or to hand in his resignation and for it to be swept under the rug. More to come.

Surely this is match fixing and the AFP need to get involved.

The AFL didn’t conduct a full-blown investigation, essentially they’d heard that Pannell and an associate were placing bets on the Bulldogs, apparently at some stage in 2016 Pannell umpired 3 or 4 Bulldog matches in a row where the free-kick count at the end of those games was more than double in the green to the Bulldogs. It set off an alarm, someone at AFL did a FOI request and found out Pannell had been betting. He was pulled on and given the ultimatum at that stage. He chose to put in his resignation and for the matter to go no further.

Amazing, and truly remarkable that they let him umpire a further two seasons after he handed in his resignation before finally retiring at the end of 2018!

Pretty sure this “rumour” has done the rounds a couple of times before.

It’s ok, I wouldn’t believe it either if it were Melbourne in the spotlight, I completely understand.

A mate of a mate who’s cousin knows someone within AFL House told me the 2016 finals series and ultimately the Grand Final were rigged for a Bulldogs win. At one stage in the big one, the Bulldogs received 17 free kicks to Sydney’s 1. The informant also sent me a link to the below article.

Always wanted to know who cousin is.

Ummmmmm… you go through the Gambling Commission or Department of Industries.
If the gambling commission had info of illegal activity they would just follow through and refer charges. No need for FOI requests to be placed on them by AFL.

You said the AFL found issues. So what???

How does the the gambling commission get involved and then if it does how does the AFL stop them from proceeding with charges???

I call bullshit.

if this was all true the gambling commission would be chasing the AFL and investigating them For covering up corruption.

If the allegation was match-fixing the CCC would investigate and the FOI’s/search warrants would be executed by them. But if the AFL withdrew their complaint because the employee had ‘voluntarily’ moved on.. there’s no complaint to continue to investigate.

So now your saying if the perpetrator of the crime voluntary retires that puts an end to any investigation or charge by any offical body??? :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

Did this confidential and reliable source let you know which games?

Was it when he umpired us against Port where we won by 3 points despite losing the free kick count 23-10?

This thread is always funny to read, but this page would have to be the highlight :) Blaming a 4 goal loss on umpiring and thinking its a conspiracy is just great. Did Q ever mention this finals series in one of the drops?

There has only been one Grand Final in recent memory decided by a umpiring. 2005
