Gimp, Buckley was ****** from the moment Mick spoke about 'his' boys on the dais after the 2010 GF. What has followed is a situation caused by many other factors rather than just whether one man can coach or not. What has been lost in all of this and not mentioned very often is the fact that that the football department made a decision on the list after the 2012 season.
Maxwell stating that some players just couldn't let go of Mick has received scant attention. The players in question have a fair role in the 'dismantling' but hey, they are premiership players so they are untouchable.
No, I'm not giving Buckley and co a discount on who they brought in, that's on their heads.
Great point Filo, but alas lost on the haters

I felt sorry for Bucks last night, the coaching staff didn't do a lot wrong yesterday, and if anything he may have even out coached Cameron (not that it's hard to do that, he may be the worst coach in the AFL at the moment).

But if we had of held on, and with Hawks and Lions to come, it's likely we would be 5-5 after 10 games, which is some fightback after a 1-4 and 2-5 start.

But alas we lost, and now at best we will be 4-6 with 2 very hard games to come after that (Dockers in Perth, Dees on their grand final day).

Apparently Geoff Walsh is ultimately the one making the decision on Bucks, or at least the recomendation to the board. He was due to meet with the board after round 8, and hello, we have passed round 8 with a 2-6 record.

I'd be shocked if anything happened this week, or even before the bye, but Walsh's report to the board this week won't be a glowing one, and it won't be entirely about one man either, we all know there are bigger problems then just the senior coach that have placed us at 2-6.

I think most of us are not haters. We wanted Buckley to succeed and were patient through the early years to get past this "Mick issue". But there's barely anyone left from 2011. Buckley has his team now. The list is fit. But look at the performance. 2:6 which is the worst year yet. Surely as much as we all love/loved Buckley, he's had a fair go, right?!

The grandstanding taking place in this thread is nauseating. People are feeling validated by the team's shitness and are spewing their bile and wisdom in equal measure. It's bizarre.

Whether it's hiring tips for the next coach or their theories for our downfall, it reads the same. Very few of us have played elite sport or even understand the caper. Be humble FFS!

Yes, we're crap and it's fair to make observations about our on-field deficiencies as they are plain to see. It's also ok to express how frustrated we are; but going as far as declaring that this was something we could foresee or that Bucks has lost the players is just bull dust. Get real. Most of us know very know little, let's not try to act otherwise.

Last night was disappointing but I've seen teams that don't play for their coach and we played to win, just don't know how.

He'll get the rest of the year no matter what , then that's it it's all over.
They're not making finals , and I'm certain Bucks' is a man of his word .
I just hope a few go with him in the coaching/footy department.

Agree with this. I hope the club manages the exit properly and it doesn't become a circus.

I also hope Hine and the rest of the list management team pack their bags as well.

Al Clarkson has been to the top of the mountain, made himself a home on top of the mountain in fact. I don't want someone who's been to the top; I want someone who has their own vision of how to get there and who has the hunger to get there.

I don't want to labour the point, but it's my view that our list is very overrated and very average. It isn't the sort of list which would bring instant success to an incoming coach, no matter their record. And so we need to take the time and effort to find someone who'll invest all of themselves, all of their career and reputation, in the task of reconstructing and reloading this team, someone who doesn't have former glories to comfort themselves with.

Another point, I'm not as fiercely anti-Ed as some, but I'm beginning to think that it'd be somewhat repugnant for him to oversee the process of reconstruction which his actions have made necessary. He should hand the process over to an independent panel, at the very least, and I'm beginning to think that he should have followed his instincts after the Carlton game last year to excuse himself from the Club entirely.

All roads lead back to Ed - succession planning role.

This respect we're showing Buckley as supporters is what I find baffling.. I'm watching games of football.. I'm not reminiscing of him as a player.

If it was anyone else at the helm.. they'd be in the Bahamas on holiday.

I don't care one iota about his career as a player.. not one! You can't coach.. get out!!!

It's not so much that they're haters, it's that they are in for a massive shock if they think the likes of Dew are going to walk in and magically deal with the myriad of variables facing them and our onfield performance.

I reckon they give him one more year, put this year down as a Murphy Law year and make it known officially that unless we play finals he won't be there in 2019. That way it puts an end to speculation.
I imagine this is only a very very slight chance of this happening. It all depends on what other options the club has for the senior coach position.

Unless Clarkson become available would we really go down the path of another untried coach like Dew as some are suggesting.

Not saying all but a lot are, they even wanted us to lose. You are at least rational and yes if we stay at the bottom he will be sacked, although I think he will walk first, all I have tried to say is why is every one so hurtful, hateful towards him. He is part of the problem but not all, and the nonsense about those premiership hero's being dismantled please

Buckley is gone, its as simple as that.

Its the same old story in another year. We were so close to having a great year. Been in every game, played some great footy but also some putrid football.

Simply he has had enough time to sort it out and cant get consistent performance out of the side.

One thing I do wonder is why Buckley just doesn't seem to appreciate enough that waiting, looking for and hitting up targets inside 50 with short passes is a better plan A than just bombing it in quick and long and hoping weight of inside 50 numbers sees you win the day.
We did both yesterday - and both worked and failed at various stages of the game.

In the last quarter there were a bunch of times when we had the ball in hand, running and carrying it through the midfield, and up ahead our forwards were double teamed, we had no open options to the side. Maybe the player could have stopped and kicked it backwards? C'mon, that would have been awful!

When the opposition seem to be more places than we are (and GWS did seem to be in that last quarter) it's a sign that they're running a lot harder than we are. Yeah, it's a sad indictment on our fitness if we can't match it with a team that's down to one rotation on the bench ...

... but yesterday seemed to be more of a fitness issue than a gameplan issue.

I don't give a rat's arse about his playing career either. I'm looking at it as a Collingwood person rather than an opposition supporter who knows stuff all other than what they hear from David King.

I'm not expecting miracles from a Dew.. all I want is to watch us play good attractive football.. not this garbage scrap crap we've dished out in 7 out of 8 games.

Watching the game on tv, I got that impression as well, some of our players looked tired early in the game. How the hell does that happen

Lethargy and lactic acid. Some games you're absolutely flying.. others.. you just can't seem to get your feet off the ground.

Our key position stocks are an absolute joke, how did they let this happen
Last year's trade period was disastrous, both in terms of what we let go, what we got in return and what we brought in. Squarely in the loss column of the ledger, and it may well end up biting for more years to come. Gubby Allen has a lot to answer for and should not be welcomed back to the club in any capacity.

I would love ratten to come in. After being through the hawthorn system he would be a great addition. Clarko would be good if his hearts in it but I dare say he would strip the playing list bare. A lot of players wouldn't be to his standard.
