I hear what you're saying, but my own point is that it seems people won't change their minds on Bucks because they can't really imagine that we'll get anywhere near the finals this year. My suspicion is that, if it did happen, many of these same supporters would actually become far more amenable to him being reappointed.

I could be wrong. It happens often.
It's been shown time and time again that Buckley can't coach consecutive good games of footy. And the footy we are producing under him aesthetically has been atrocious.

I dunno what it is but to put it simply.. the bloke doesn't know how to transition from one game to the next. Geelong to Carlton is a great example of that.

And IF it was consistently good? Highly unlikely I know but it would be folly to start a new coach IF the current is going in the right direction
Because starting good consistent football after round 8 isn't good enough. We are so far behind the pack. We should easily be 5-3 or at least 4-4 with a decent coach. He has had 6 years to prove he can coach and failed to do so.

True enough and a damn shame that the notion of a premiership under Bucks has evaporated in a hurry. The dream was lovely while it lasted.
It evaporated for me early last year so it is becoming a real grind seeing us tread this water. My head rules my heart so I'm finding it real hard to "support" our club the way I naturally should.

Blair and gain were mentioned in the same sentence. Still think it was a good post?
Because coaching isn't about choosing your most senior 22 players from your list of 44 players. It's about getting the right combination of players to take the field and that means getting the right mix of talls, mediums and stalls to play together. Blair may contribute to the win against Hawthorn on Saturday but how does he help a forward line with a critical shortage of talls? Vickery may not be the best player around but at least he gives the Hawthorn forward line structure, which we don't have. Even if we played McCarthy or Lynch on Saturday, who aren't at AFL level yet, it gives our forward line structure. Going forward we have something to look forward to as a team. We don't have anything to look forward to with our lineup on Saturday night, even assuming we win, just a downward spiral to oblivion at the end of the season where we join Brisbane at the bottom of the ladder.

Have discussed it before but mainly gameplan, tactics, however since they are the things you don't agree on we are miles apart in our thinking.

Save me have heard it all before, not interested in the messiah bullshit.
10 years=1 flag, that's it despite having everything he wanted, no football cap, no-one involved in his decision making.
I feel as strongly for Buckley as you do against Buckley.
Fair enough..

So you believe it's a cattle issue why we aren't getting results? Or the gameplay is solid but doesn't suit our playing group..

Not trolling, genuinely interested in your point of view on it..

At what point in times does Collingwood either come out and back Buckley or begin the interview process? Is it when finals are statistically impossible or when we get a few 10 goal flogging? If Buckley keeps the flogging to under 4-5 goals he could get another year if the board conducts a full review and finds he is on the right track. IMO we did underperform in 2014 and 2015 due to injuries. A full review might find a mini rebuild is all we need to climb back up the ladder. Will anyone accept this if Buckley keeps the job?

If there was a full, fair and balanced review and the findings were made available to members, then I'd consider the evidence and then decide to support or not. Unfortunately, the club seems to belong to the school that believes you don't hold an inquiry unless you know the outcome.
I don't think this club is capable of doing anything in a balanced fashion. It's decision-making processes leave a lot to be desired. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the coaching position at Collingwood now is a poison chalice. The board appears to be full of Eddie sycophants and back slappers. t is incapable of doing the right thing by the club, the coach or its players

Buckley CAN and is a good coach, whether he is coaching us next year or NOT, will not change my mind.
If we do have a new coach next year, I will support him until the time I won't, just as I had to put up with MM after 5 years.
Bahahahahaha yep up there with Jock McHale

If Mcguire had a choice.. he'd surround himself with every Collingwood man he's ever known.

We're at breaking point with Buckley.. who does he meet for lunch to discuss the clubs future.. Peter Mckenna.

If you're dealing with Collingwood people.. then you shut yourself down from the rest of the world and what it has to offer.

Boys club mentality.. it's gotta stop!

Personally I would be more than happy to see him re-signed if we make the 8. But it's a moot point. It aint gunna happen.
Therefore I would be more than happy to see him moved on ASAP and see a caretaker come in. Start changing things up now.
I don't see the point in a caretaker coach, if bucks is going at the end of the year he needs to develop to young players as much as possible by giving them senior exposure. No point in putting in a interim coach and then having to start again 4 months later.

I know you are not trolling and and am happy to to converse with you in the same spirit.

This is where I am at a loss, the poor execution and decision making has me scratching my head.

As you may be aware I went to several training sessions last year and stuffed if I know why some players buckle under game pressure. I don't believe that it is game style as watching other teams (mostly free to air), I really can't see much difference in game style apart from execution and skills.

Don't get me wrong, I have criticised Buckley often for team selection (I am a huge fan of Shaz since the first time I saw him play) and not try something out of left field on game day with players in different positions (I loved Sheedy when he was coaching). At the same time, I don't know whether players are carrying injuries into a game or if players aren't selected because of injury. It is not as if the club is completely honest about injuries.

Recruiting has been poor in the first few years and again, I don't know how much influence the coach has in this.

Was listening to Tim Watson (yeah I know not the best) and was surprised to hear him say that things like team selection and recruiting is not solely a coach decision which surprised me as surely he should have the final say. Not sure how much truth there is to it.

I am almost resigned to the fact that Buckley will not be coaching next year but what I am not going to agree with is lot of the criticism that has been directed at him on many occasions, unfairly and quite vitriolic.

I would expect you to take your cue from your own fine brain and it's thoughts JB, not what Buckley says about his own job.

The team had to come out from round 1 this year playing well structured, well organized motivated footy with consistent effort. They have done the opposite. Bucks has had a full list and a whole summer to get them drilled and up for it. I've seen enough, even if there is some miracle that gets us to finals this year; we won't win a flag under Buckley.
Maybe you should explain how we guarantee his replacement wins a flag.
You make it sounds so easy.

ED has a very strong network of capable people who DON't barrack for Coll, that he can seek advice from - so again you pass on your ridiculous assertions as facts, when you are clearly and demonstrably ill-informed.

You know every time I see your name in a post I dislike champagne even more.

You are like the gift that keeps on giving but once opened, you realise it is has gone sour and rotten and sadly no return address.
Hook, line and sinker :)

What did I make sound easy? There are, of course, no guarantees. But, pretty obviously, when something fails over a long period of time.. you need to change it. If his replacement fails with adequate opportunity (as Buckley has had), we move on to someone else till we find the right match. It's how employment should work. Do you believe that our leaders should be entrenched in their positions regardless? Doesn't happen at lower levels of employment when you consistently can't meet expectation. Should be less so with those in high paid leadership positions.

Some seem to think that if you're a senior coach who is not getting results.. then you can use every excuse under the sun to sympathize with him.

Part of any senior role is to deal with tough times.. you're not given a senior role if you 'CAN NOT DO THIS'. Buckley has failed dismally in this regard.

And to all the Buckley pro fighters.. time is of the essence in any role!

So kudos too you Doodles..

I will commend Buckley for the finally stopping cheap goals over the top (albeit 3 years too late), i haven't seen that the last couple of weeks so there has certainly been a change in our defensive structure.

My issue with him is he is so steadfast with his approach over the last few years and not willing to try things, we finally caught a glimpse of him trying something new against GWS, switching Reid forward (pre-meditated) and even throwing Darcy in the ruck in the Final quarter (spontaneous, which i loved), and although Reid didn't set the world on fire it free'd up Darcy, and equaled his career best marks again.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in selection because at times it just makes zero sense to me. (don't get me started on why Gary Pert is on the selection committee)

Playing Cox over White on Anzac Day when it was going to be wet.

Fasolo at CHF this week.

The non Selection of Schaz, even though i think he may be a late inclusion.

Just really odd.

Blair has been deplorable this year, has 1 good game at VFL level and comes straight back into the senior side, has 10 touches and kicks 2, but was playing much higher up the ground so his possession count is a glaringly obvious black mark against his game last week (on top of that ridiculous free kick that allowed GWS the inside 50 and subsequent winning goal). Holds his spot, while Callum Brown tears up the VFL, gets the stock standard, well done young fella.. we'll name you as an emergency just like Daicos. That's not good enough imo.

We are 1 of 3 clubs not to play any debutantes 19 or younger this year. Adelaide were one of those 3 clubs and they have named Jordan Galluci to debut as well as ex Perth Wildcat Hugh Greenwood to play his first Senior AFL game.

Fact is we are 2 and 6, teams don't play finals from that position. It's counterproductive to play Goldsack (as much as i love him) and Blair, when you have Scharenberg and Brown/Daicos in the reserves.

Buckley is a part of the issue in my eyes, but he's not alone in shouldering the blame. We need a ruthless review at the end of this season from top to bottom.

Our list management to allow a depth chart of KPP stock below.

DEFENCE

Reid
Schade
Dunn

FORWARD

Moore
Cox
White

Now we have addressed it slightly in the last draft picking up McClarty/Lynch/McCarthy, only McClarty looks to be a player at this stage.

This should have been addressed 2-3 seasons ago, and the coach has a very active role in this. Usually the process is, Coach says i want this type of player.. Recruiter then goes out and gets the best available or advises otherwise.

I would really like to see less Collingwood people in power positions at the club, i think this mentality of looking after our own is crippling our club. They see everything through Black and White tinted glasses.

We are so far from being a finals contender, so whether Buckley can't devise a game plan that suits our playing group, or whether he doesn't motivate our players or inspire them, or it's just that the planets haven't cosmically aligned for Bucks to have success with the club he has dedicated much of his life to, i really hope he has the testicular fortitude to step forward and say.. This hasn't and isn't working, i'm stepping aside instead of getting a begrudging tap on the shoulder from Eddie and Pert.

Ultimately the Buck stops with the Coach (pardon the pun)

It's sad to see a club legend fail, but he isn't the first and won't be the last. I do think clubs will be a little gun shy on recruiting high profile former players in the wake of Voss, Hird and Bucks.

So therefore your strident belief that Buckley will not win a flag, is as equally unfounded, as the your belief a new coach will deliver a flag.

By inference however, even the 'miracle scenario' of making the 8 precludes Bucks' reappointment in your mind, because we cant win a flag under Bucks.

That's very strange logic given there are no guarantees of flag with a new coach.
