Watching the game against Gold Coast made me think of this quote: I am not afraid of having lost; I just don't want to be there when it happens.
Whenever I am watching the Pies I want to win more than anything. I know that the players want to win and I want them to win as it helps them build confidence and team spirit and connection. It will also make CFC a better trading destination.
At the moment, however, the future prospects of the club depend upon going to the draft (who can forget the benefit of 2005?) as well as hitting rock bottom sooner rather than later to drive change and alleviate our continued suffering (coach, CEO, Board, recruitment team are all in the line of fire for this).
I spend the weeks worrying that we will stay in a state of perpetual mediocrity and the weekend worrying we will lose again and my heart will again be broken. This inevitably turns to anger when I see Ed be so bullish and dismissive of the members as he was on Fox Footy this week. We have a right to ask questions after he has presided over a 6 year decline in performance - when Dermott tried to ask the question he spoke over the top of him and said he would tell us exactly what he tells everyone else.
Everyone else is not taking a substantial proportion of their disposable income and spending it on a Legend's membership nor attending every game. Were he to appear to care about what the members actually think, I would happily tell him my views and ask him about the apparent lack of governance at the club leading to poor decisions such as the Mayne deal, the Gubby/Whitfield debacle and ultimately the failed handover plan absent of process.
He needs to leave the executive function of the club to the management and chair the Board as is his role. I look forward to full and frank disclosure of the outcomes of the review and for real action to be taken to address what has been poor organisational performance over an extended period.
