I still have no idea what went on in the final home and away game in 2011 where we got maulled by Geelong by 100 points. I would offload a gorilla to find out the truth.

This is a point on which we can agree, although I think we lost that one by 98 points.

I was at that game, and stayed until the end. It felt like something 'broke' that night, something unravelled. It was clear from that game that we would not be winning the flag, despite what went on to happen during the GF. You think that was the start of our problems, and you may be right.

Some on here are saying a contract extension is warranted again so Bucks can "see it through" or to "ease the pressure on the players".

When a coach has as obviously fallen short of his guaranteed objectives as Bucks has then he has to be held to account no matter who they are or how good a player they were. It sadly looks like the Football Dept has ballsed things up badly this past 3 years and perhaps a change needs to occur sooner than expected.

Hopefully today is a catalyst and we turn it all around and win the next 18 games and march into finals and glory but it's looking like another wasted year again already and I hate that.

I very much doubt that the club is considering a contract extension, and in the end that's all that really matters. I don't think there is much doubt that the players and coaches are feeling the pressure and that it is manifesting in our performance. That pressure can only be relieved by stringing some wins together, something that looks unlikely at the moment.

Come on Maggie5, in what universe is Buckley comparable to MM as a coach and therefore entitled to the same treatment. MM arrived as a dual premiership coach and took us to 2 grand finals before achieving the ultimate success.

My universe, was never a fan of him.
Over hyped and was given all the tools necessary to be successful yet took succession plan to see a flag.
See Carlton, will take them another three years for them to be truly competitive after his stint.
Don't bother telling me about finals appearance, not interested, to me only grand final wins count. MM total at Collingwood=1 after 10 years.

Some are, especially those that were calling for it in his first or second year.

Some see the writing on the wall way before others.. don't confuse the romanticism of Buckley with absolutely nothing of a resume as a coach except AIS level.

Look at it realistically please.

Even the decisions to sign Treloar and Adams as good as they have been.. they were under the tutorage of Buckley at the AIS.

How many players at GWS were overlooked when they have equal talent if not better.

This is precisely what I hate.. go in any decision you make without bias or prejudice.

We traded Heath Shaw for Adams.. but made a direct vline for Adams.. why because he was under Buckley's wing.. look at the entire playing group.. not your mates. Although I'm ok with the decision.. there are so many other players we could have targeted as well that were clearly overlooked for the buddy factor!

Thanks Quirky, a little bit of both in all seriousness.

Partly because I think he was on a hiding to none and also because I think he can coach.

Not sure that he has been adequately supported by the administration as much as he should have been in terms of football department (fitness/medical) and the way the handover was conducted which I don't accept he should take any blame.

I don't think I have played any sport or seen too many opposition games and come away thinking that the coach lost that game. Sure you can plan for a game and certain opposition players but if your players are not up to it, you lose. If your players don't work hard enough, run hard enough and are inefficient in front of goal you will most likely lose.

The only query I have is that he doesn't make any out of field positional changes that may turn a game. He seems to keep to the 'plan'.

Take yesterday's game, 50 inside 50's (St.Kilda 66) for a return of 9.15, that is unlikely to win games as does having 21 less tackles than the opposition. I am not sure how many clangers but you can't win games when there is a hit out in the opposition goals square and we handball to their player for an easy goal.
There so many more incidences like that.

I think that the next games where we play three games in 12 days will be very telling and will show the character of our playing list and the coach.

He nailed it about as at best being "pedestrian".

You will find silly goals like that even themselves out over the course of the yr.

The players are clearly confused as to wtf is going on and where to run. That is clearly.. unequivocally.. a coaching flaw!

Great or poor conversion rate is just incidental. It's how the ball gets there that matters most.. for the most part.. it's been absolutely awful how we move it from back to mid to forward.

I've had some great coaches.. and i tell you something that's universal.. regardless of how talented you are.. you don't believe in the coach.. you drop your rating on the pitch.

At the elite level where 5% matters.. that's all a drop that's required in your game too make you look like a shit kicker.

And in a team.. regardless of how you perceive Collingwood as a 40 man squad.. there are pro and con groups within the squad.. this makes the relationship between the players really quite difficult.

A game that is not fun.. or highly regimented.. really can effect your mindset as well.

Players want to strut their stuff.

Its an avenue to vent one's frustrstions with those who understand it. Its social. Its informative. Reading the views of others. Understanding and learning more about it. Seeking answers. Asking questions. Becoming more footy astute. It all adds up.

I recall something Brereton said a while ago.. still stuck in my head that sums it up perfectly. John Kennedy was a great coach.. why.. bc when he looked at you in the eye.. when he spoke to you.. it was genuine.. then he went on and said.. 'if a player can detect even 1% of bs coming out of their coach.. they will never forget it.. it lingers in their memory for however long the coach's reign is'.. that is something that i can make total sense of.

Players never forget the bs a coach dishes out.. and it effects their performance. I absolutely agree with this 100%.

Let me share that I played under the biggest bitch that had favourites and was very lucky to have some good players in the team and I never gave less than 100%. if a sportsperson drops their head because of a coach then in my opinion it says more about them but I can't and haven't seen that in the team apart from those that that did drop their rating and preferred to sook.

I think that he has a lot to do in the next three games (over 12 days) to get inside their head and get them back to believing.

Bucks is my all time favourite player. I've desperately wanted for him to succeed as coach. But I hope the club has plans in place to replace him. I hope they consider conducting a genuine search for an appropriate replacement, and don't just go recruit someone without due process. Unless, they manage to convince Alistair Clarkson to leave the Hawks.

It seems the players only react to media pressure and we know Bucks has said it's not his job to motivate them. But at the end of the day, plenty of the best coaches have also been the best motivators.

I wanted to give Bucks the benefit of the doubt because of the injuries we have suffered since he took over, but we are close to injury free at the moment, and there is zero sign of improvement.

I know the club won't want to publicly write off the season this early, but I hope that they make a decision earlier in the season than later.

Sorry Bucks, but we can't accept mediocrity any more. It's time for us to play finals again.

By the way, the way some of our supporters behave in the outer is a pathetic. We aren't Richmond. Barracking for your own team to lose because you want a coach replaced is a joke and endlessly ranting about Bucks just makes watching a game like that more miserable for everyone else. If you want to barrack like that piss off to Punt Road.

As a competitor.. its your natural instinct to play a good game.. but to reach your peak.. that's the job of the coach.

When you see on the training pitch the coach favoring others over you.. and you think of it as unjustified.. you simply don't perform at your peak.

That is where strength of mind comes in.
I was/am short and was determined to perform at my peak because I knew any excuse and I would be dropped to the seconds. Most likely why I see more in a player like Blair than most posters do. I don't give any outs outs to players than I do to coaches.

But to repeat, I don't know why Buckley sometimes doesn't try some outfield positional changes during games like Sheedy used to do. He was a master at it.
