With $2m rise in the cap, Sydney obviously have someone in mind since they still have not signed Reid and Jones. If they were our only priority and we didn't have a significant target in mind those two would be done and dusted by now. Clubs were advised to bank on an extra 10% or $1m in cap raise not 20%.
A lot of players that signed new contracts recently (Heeney, Kennedy, etc....) would have had clauses in their contracts I would assume that they would get a % pay rise depending on the rise in the cap. If they didn't, would be pretty negligent of their management. So not all the extra cash would be free.

I thought it was reported somewhere he would be staying in Melbourne?
He probably will.
I think on the back of our surprise recruitment of Buddy as a free agent, we have the ability to attract such talent without having to give up valuable draft picks. I have no doubt that if Dusty's management told the Swans he wanted to play for us, we would make room instantly.
Now being the positive person, I would rather choose to believe that giving up Tom Mitchell & not having signed Reid & Jones thus far is not because Buddy has put a squeeze on our cap but rather, just as we let Mummy go, we are clearing up cap space.
I have no reason to believe it is anything else.

Hypothetically of course, how about if we gave Dusty $2.5M in the first year, coinciding with the pay increase and $1M per year for five years after that? So $7.5M for 6 years! Or an average of $1.25M per year until the end of season 2023 when he is 32. Now Freo have just signed Fyfe for $1.4M per year for 3 or 4 years. The landscape has changed.
That would provide him with the ability to set himself up instantly in year one with the ability to earn massive marketing dollars.

Once again it is all talk but it is the type of deal a club would need to do to take him from the Tigers, which is where I REALLY believe he will stay.
The only other team I see Dusty being attracted to is the Hawks, who have salary cap space to burn & don't have the ability to trade with high picks. Free Agency is their only way of bringing in talent.

Offers Jones and Reid are receiving from other teams have likely increased by the 20% as well. An offer of $100,000 more could increase by a further $20,000 possibility much more.

Teams don't just get a 20% cap rise and not be able to sign two of there brightest stars of the future without something in the works behind the scenes regardless of what is written into other players contracts. Not all players will have it in there contracts either. We already know Buddy doesn't and I would think most highly paid players wouldn't. Players such as JPK, Parker, Hanners, Heeney, mills etc who have signed large contracts recently I would think it stands to reason it's not in there contracts. They are already on large money. The club would protect itself from such circumstances, especially knowing the increase was coming. It more likely written into the contracts of the lower paid players.

Despite Dusty being a fantastic player he comes with off field baggage we don't want, look at what's happened to Talia since his coke episode, the swans just don't want players like this and i would very much doubt he is even on our radar.

I never said they couldn't. I was just making reference that the full 20% cap rise would not be all available.

If I was Heeney/JPK/etc... And didn't have a clause in my contract I would sack my manager.

I guess it is all hypothetical though as none of us know what is in their contracts.

What happened to Talia had nothing to do with coke but the fact that he is not an AFL quality player.

If Talia was best 22, he would be in the Swans senior team. Simple fact is, he is not in our best 22 and has been overtaken by better players.

Buddy was no saint mate
Says who? Any examples of this? Or is it just rumour.

Ffs Martin threatened a woman in a restaurant with a chopstick, his dad is a rebel bikie who has been deported, he's great mates with Jake King. Do we want a guy like this.

The player certainly but not the rest.

Certainly agree that not all 20% will be available. I just think it would be irresponsible of the club to include a pay rise clause in any highly paid players contract. Offering slightly more rather than including a pay rise clause would be more beneficial for player and club. More money for player guaranteed but less than what it would be overall if a pay rise came through.

Don't forget we got our cap shrunk before the latest CBA. None of our players got a paycut when the COLA got taken away
