This might be a bit blunt... but anyone complaining about the trading period not being entertaining is an idiot.
The point of this period is for the club and players to make decisions on who is playing where next year. It is a practical exercise that for the most part needs to be nutted out behind closed doors. For the most part these negotiations are pretty mundane and take into account a lot of information that isn't (and shouldn't) be publicly available. It simply doesn't exist for your entertainment. The idea that another sport does trading "better" or that this has any sort of significance on the quality of the sport is ridiculous. That you are getting disappointed because there isn't enough action is your problem, not the AFL's, the player's or the club's.
The problem is is that the AFL market Trade Week as entertainment so that they have a lot more media coverage, sell papers, are in the news, etc.....
So the AFL has created a serious practical exersize into the media monster it is, hence the debate about what would make it more exciting.
