Kruezer won the battle, but all Blues fans seem to preach is that he "smashed" Grundy when actually he really didn't, Grundy was nearly as good in the ruck.
It was Grundy's worst performance of the year, while Kreuzer was arguably BOG. It was a smashing.

This is a more general comment about defenders, but I find it interesting the way defenders are chosen. There seems to be 2 main type, rebounding defenders (JJ, Hunt, Yeo), or marking defenders (Howe, Laird, Rance).

A skill that appears to have been overlooked in importance, is being accountable to a man. A few (like Rance), defend a man and do their "AA skill" amazingly, and are usually the ones picked. It might not be as important now defence is largely a zone concept, but I feel like there are players out there who are amazingly consistent at the one skill nobody ever seems to care about.
But it can also lead to some massive over rating of defenders. For example, I remember Oxley taking about a bazillion marks against us one game. Problem was he isn't an accountable defender, so is now in the Magoos. But that kid was the next coming after that game.
Yeo has 3rd most marks in the comp for the record, was 1st for a while but has since spent a bit of time in the midfield.

Surprised Selwood is still in everyone's team yet Sloane isn't. Both started the year in the first 5-6 weeks really well and then been quieter since except for a couple of games

How on the gosh darn heck is Laird a marking player like Howe or Rance?

No Collingwood player should be in contention. High possession game style with zero affect. If all you do is stare at statistic, 5 Collingwood players make the AA team. If you look and results and watch the match, zero.

Who? You mean another passenger on the ineffective possession train? your team loves looking at the stats sheet.
Haha wow get a load of this guy. I hope you don't have Rance in your team because they are playing the exact same role for very similar output.

Selwood will receive Brownlow votes in all three wins from rounds 9-11.

Round 12 we had the bye, round 13 he was poor by his standards and round 14 he was KO'd in the first minute.

So only one poor game.

Rounds 6 to 8 and 13 he was poor. Will probably get votes in round 10 and 11. Thought there were a 3 or 4 better in round 9

So i have it as 4 poor games and KO'd in the first minute of another.

Howe has been excellent this year and would be well and truly in the AA conversation.

Your post indicates you're probably the one not watching games.

Let's talk about David Astbury, IMO he's on the verge of AA contention and if his form continues should definitely be talked about.
Which tall is he going to displace? Rance and Hurley have all but sewn up the two key posts and there are far too many quality medium and small defenders for him to get past to snag a place in the pocket.

Yes, and no Carlton player should be in the team either. How did you know that's what I was going to say next? Man both those teams suck, dunno how supporters can try to sell them to me.

Tom Clurey is another who has had an amazing year as the best defender in the team who have conceded the least amount of points in the comp.

Agreed, Astbury does less than Rance or Hurley, a very decent stopper but I expect the AA to want their KPDs to stop and create.

I'm not sure points conceded necessarily correlates with team defence quality. Richmond don't have the second best defence in the league, neither do Adelaide have the fourth best.
