I thought this would be a good place to start talking about the future of our list. Who goes, who stays, whose improving, whose struggling to make the grade beyond depth player etc.

Curtly Hampton

Ultimately best 22 players
Forwards

Kyle Hartigan (injured part of the year)
Rory Laird (injured part of the year)
Luke Brown (injured part of the year)
Tom Doedee (injured part of the year)
Not sold list - Destined to be depth - Was a best 22 now a SANFL mainstay - Not proven
Myles Poholke
Jordan Gallucci
Andy Otten - In trouble (injured part of the year)
David Mackay (injured part of the year)
Patrick Wilson
Darcy Fogarty
Kyle Cheney (injured part of the year)
Reilly O'Brien (injured part of the year)
Cam Ellis-Yolman (injured part of the year)
Sam Gibson - In trouble (injured part of the year)
Lachlan Murphy (injured part of the year)
Alex Keath (injured part of the year)
Jake Kelly

Untested
Harry Dear
Ben Davis
Ben Jarman
Jackson Edwards
Elliott Himmelberg
Andrew McPherson
Matthew Signorello
Paul Hunter

The best 22 is fluid and ultimately players who are on that list can fall out pretty easy. But at present arguably a team with that 22 would be close to our best. Interesting to note just how many injuries we have had this year from that 22.

I am far from sold on Gallucci and Poholke. They seem like good depth players where if 21 of the best 22 is available then they could do a job. But to me they simply don't have the tools to be regular best 22 players. Marshall, SPP and Berry all followed after Gallucci. Not our finest drafting. Hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess.

I think about 10 of those were hammies.

Walker
Betts x2
Gibson x2
M. Crouch x2
Knight
Seedsman
Hartigan
Milera
Murphy
McPherson
Cheney

That's the hammy list to date.

Jeez laying out all the injuries like that show what a pathetic run we've had.

Would like to know how many were collision vs soft tissue. (ie in our control vs out of it)
Even more when the "injured part of the year" could go next to Hampton, Dear, Edwards, Himmelberg and Hunter as well!

Wait a second. You're telling me a kid who has nailed multiple key/clutch moments we've had this season (to the point where he's in the conversation for the best clutch player on our list) is a failed draft pick?

I'm guessing this is because he's averaging 11 disposals as a small forward :$

Agree. The gooch is impressing me more with each outing. The 'last 2 mins' vid from the showdown alone has him showing up much more decorated pear nuffties multiple times.
SPP has proven to be just another knuckle dragging oaf without much else to offer unless he can run straight into something.

He is a failed draft pick at 15. He isn't a best 22 player if the whole squad is fit. I am not saying he won't make a good niche role player but was that what we where wanting at pick 15? There is nothing wrong with being a good 23rd man, injuries happen. But its disappointing from a first round pick that's what I am saying.

I'm going to say you have gone way too early on this, as it is based on someones first season of close to full football (and in a very marginal position). Especially seeing if you're judging negatively off such a small sample base, odds are you're going to look absolutely stupid soon (you won't be the first to either seeing people are way too quick to judge if a kid won't make it).

Right now, there have been a lot of signs there is a very bright future for the kid. Not one that'll end up as a peak of good depth.

I reckon he's tracking pretty well, not dusappointing for the pick used at all

Who replaces him?

Put a 2019 Best 22 together for us please

I did already. 22 players named in forward, mids, defense. You tell me who stays out for him??

I also think when we draft young guns he will be pushed past. He does show a bit but again not spectacular for pick 15. Happy to be proven wrong. If he does sensational.

No way..
This kid can play, gets himself in great positions and could've/shouldve been used a hell of a lot more on sat night but wasn't and it was really starting to piss me off. To the kids credit he lifted and made it his own to impact the game. That is the sign of a very good footballer.

That's a learning thing for Gooch. Make himself forced to be used, and gaining the trust of others. It'll come in time.

There is no point getting into a great position if you can't be seen/at the limit of the ball carriers skill level unless it's to draw an opposition away from the ball carrier.

Agreed it's hard for a youngster to demand the footy but a few times sat night he was running forward of centre along the square, given half a chance he could put the jets on and his delivery of a short pass to a leading forward is as good as we have.

WTF??? lol
If Douglas is in our long term plan then once again we fail at long term planning. If you or the club cant see something special in Gallucci then thats on you both. I hope the 1 year contract for Douglas is more a sign of loyalty than long term thinking.

Douglas is getting on. No doubt. But as of right now Doogie is still in our best 22. You just cant can all experience saying they wont win us a premiership plan for the future. Look I hope Gooch proves me wrong but as of right now I don't see it. Time will tell whose right I guess. I wont complain if I am wrong though. Its a bonus.
