Between McCartin,Reid, Parker, Hayward, Ronke, Papley and Blakey we'll have the forward line more than covered. With the player(s) we bring in we might even be able to deliver it to them. We need some clarsh in the midfield.
Buddy isn't a top 5 player anymore* and won't be getting any better. Though would galvanise Carlton's list alongside Lloyd and take the heat off their rebuild.

You gotta give something to get something.

* Players ahead of Buddy: Cripps, Fyfe, Gawn, Tich, Danger, (there could be a few more)
Mitchell is absolutely in no way ahead of Buddy and Gawn is a great player but his growing reputation as a top player is flavour of the month imo.

That's be the worst decision by this club since Tippet. I am the best coach in the league. I have taken this club to a Premiership, 3 Grand Finals and never once missed the finals. My record speaks for itself. The reality is my tactics have kept this team afloat otherwise we'd be bottom four this year.
You flew th qld sucking Tippett of the day after the 12GF

I notice you sold your house last week. Getting ready to move to Melbourne?
You'd make as interesting and dynamic a commentator as Roos does. ;)

Maybe throw yourself into the trade: Horse + Buddy + Lloyd, for the No. 1 pick + Bolton.

The thing is our forward line on paper wouldn’t be far of the best in the comp and other coaches would love it
Ronke
Paply
Reid
Hayward
Heeney
Buddy ******* Franklin

To not kick scores is no doubt the way it’s set up

Blind Freddy can see that

Horse change
This is part of the issue in some ways though:
Ronke - young inconsistent
Reid - injured (he or a player like him is the key to make this all work imo)
Hayward - young inconsistent
Heeney - needed in the mids due to Hannebery, Jack going down and under performance from others
Buddy - has clearly not been 100% almost all year

I won’t say there aren’t issues with structure because there is, as well as mids ability to actually hit one of these players in space, but we haven’t been able to put it all together this year unfortunately.

Buddy of two years ago and prior was certainly ahead of Tich this year. If Budd had added overhead marking to his repertoire he'd still be nicely ahead of Tich - alas no sign of it so far. This is real worry for us looking at his contract. If he can't adapt his game with his speed tailing off....This is THE year to trade him IMHO.

We won't though - it's just an academic argument.

Agreed, people point to Titch's disposal rate like that qualifies how fantastic he is. Well the Swans won the disposal count by 35 but it made no difference to the end result. If it was all down to disposals we should have won

I wouldn’t be trading buddy

He would look a million bucks if we moved the ball better and hit him on a lead once in a while

His role is seriously jeopardised by the way we plan and set up
I can't believe anyone would even think or even post that crap.

I’d ask for a trade if I were him and we start drafting in even more kids

We have a once in a generation player let’s give him a chance ffs

Yeah but look where they are

Papley keeps starting in the centre wtf is that ?

Budddy has to run to half back to get a kick he looks a bit sore as it is but he can’t get he ball

Ronke similar he’s all over the ground, use his ****en pace horse

Even add Parker that’s the one move horse does do and he is a Rippa resting forward

A lot harder as Mitchell is the extractor and in and under getting the ball out while Lloyd sits out the back

Yep Mitchell is one of the best extractors in the game and was a clear jpk replacement

But he’s gone now so I can see why some want to diminish him because it less frustrating than the fact we traded away our second best mid

They are attacking players as well. Imagine how bad our scoring would be if we had the Bulldogs forward line, or Fremantle's. I mean even Ross Lyon has a more attacking gameplan that offers more to the forwards than Longmire does.

What is the point of having him if all it gets us is first final exits for the next 3 years at best? Our midfield is not capable of delivering it to him. Please wrap your head around the possibility that trading him doesn't mean not valuing him as a player.
If we are about premierships then absolutely we are open to trade one of the best ever - to get back the ability to have a realistic crack at it.
I mean, what are we hoping for? Dawson turns into JPK mark II and becomes the best mid in the game? It could happen, hope it does, but it's very bloody unlikely.

Parochial thinking came up last year when I suggested trading Hanners for a top 10 pick. The barrackers jumped all over me. "Salt of the earth, Swan for life blahedy freaking blah" Wouldn't get pick 50 for him atm and his contract hangs over us for years.

The club will need to be strategic after being up so long with no out and out top picks. We've not been given the golden ticket GWS have. Unfortunately current leadership shows few signs of that. They got bent over a desk by the AFL, and have stuck with players too long.

If we beat the Bombers, Pies and GWS and Buddy starts marking the football I reserve the right to change my mind entirely. Until then I think trading him/Lloyd for a number one pick, and then another trade around 14 would be our best shot at a dynamic midfield and winning it all.

Bedford, can you see any other potential trades that improves our midfield enough to get us to a premiership using Buddy? It's not like anyone is giving up gun midfielders for naught. I'm very interested in genuine answers to this question.

Can't believe what I'm reading. You don't trade once in a generation players, sorry. I don't know what to believe in if we lose the Budwah.

If Horse could think of a gameplan at the SCG of how to use him he'd still be the best key forward in the competition....and he probably still is.

We need to be aggressive in the trade period. Trade our first for a ready to go midfielder or trade up the draft to get a top 5 selection (* I don’t know how).
We don’t need to retain our first to get Blakey and we will miss the opportunity if we hold onto it as it’ll almost certainly be used for Blakey which will eliminate the pick or push picks further down the draft order.

We should also have a very good look at the free agents available and who might suit us.

Clear out some of the deadwood, move on a few journeyman who aren’t going to take us to the next level.

Do we let Blakey go if we can get ready made types ?
I wouldn’t. Top end tall talent can be hard to come by. Top 10 pick for possibly a couple of second rounders is a no brainer.

Need a Kennedy type that isn’t getting opportunity that is ready to break out.

Our recent demise can be bought down to two stuff ups by the club. The long contract extension of KJ and playing Hanners this year when he clearly was not up to it. Apparently he didn't do surgery so here we are right now. That's two of our permanent midfielders gone out of the side. We don't have anyone to replace them, and whilst our young players can match them every 1/3 matches it is too difficult for them to do it consistently each week. They're big losses and that's why we are struggling so badly.
