The club also thought It had more cap space then it did after getting buddy
I doubt that although no doubt the random removal of COLA put a dent in our plans a bit. Trade ban farce too fwiw. But in regards to how we're so bad right now it is because of KJ and Hanners. You can't just replace them out of your arse. The club clearly thought they would be their old selves this year and backed them in, wrong call clearly.

The thing is our forward line on paper wouldn’t be far of the best in the comp and other coaches would love it
Ronke
Paply
Reid
Hayward
Heeney
Buddy ******* Franklin

To not kick scores is no doubt the way it’s set up

Blind Freddy can see that

Horse change

Cameron -1 game
O'Riordan - 2 games
McCartin - 9 games
Fox - 10 games
Ronke - 12 games
Aliir - 22 games
Marsh - 25 games
Newman - 25 games
Florent - 26 games
Hayward - 34 games

That's 10 players well under 50 games that ran out yesterday with 9 under 30 games.

When I look at that list, the other coaches wouldn't know what to do with it.
Judge the club fairly & not on your dreams & the media really need to do their research & understand that Buddy alone cannot carry that many over the line.

Collingwood's team yesterday had 8 players with under 50 games experience (7 with 35 or less). They won by 11 goals against a team we scraped past last week.

Gold Coast's team yesterday also had 9 players under 50 games, and Geelong's had 8 - both won also. It is certainly possible.

I would do something like this. * next to those players that cannot be forced (ie. have a contract)
This is very harsh on some players, but I don't feel they will be a part of the next premiership team.
(note: this has almost no chance of happening)

Retire (or trade to another destination that may extend their careers should they choose)
Kurt Tippett (already gone)
Jarrad McVeigh
Heath Grundy
Kieran Jack*

**Retain or Retire (not going to be part of next premiership but am partial to being retained)
Nick Smith

Delist / Trade (Keep one from this group, I'd go with Robinson on a one year deal)
Nic Newman
James Rose
Jordan Foote
Daniel Robinson (possible retain)

Consider Trading (if advantageous)
Jake Lloyd
Gary Rohan

Promote from Rookie List
Ben Ronke
Robbie Fox
Alex Johnson (if keeps up current trajectory)

Retain on Rookie List
Joel Amartey (already signed)
James Bell
Angus Styles (if he keeps his current form trajectory, otherwise delist)

Delist from Rookie List
Jake Brown (I am not convinced he has done enough, has had a chance to step up in lieu of more senior players recently and has been shadowed by a couple of academy kids IMO. Looking at his stats, he hasn't increased them greatly over the several years being in NEAFL despite now being on the Swans actual list)
Toby Pink (unlucky for him, injury has not been kind, just don't think he has shown enough improvement)

That would leave, after rookie promotions, 6-7 spots on the main list and 2-3 rookie spots.

Draft picks currently 14, 32, 34, 76 (I think)

Draft and Trade Strategy
Option 1: Try and trade up the draft to get ahead of our likely Blakey pick. Lloyd could be useful here packaged with our first round pick. Pick up Blakey likely from our existing second round selections
1.1 Then try and trade the fringe types to try and get back into the second or (more likely) third rounds and look closely at the free agents if there are any players that would suit our needs.

Option 2: Trade our first pick and if needed what we get for Lloyd (if traded) to get a quality player for an area of need, probably midfield.
Repeat 1.1

Something like that anyway.

I would have Rampe playing the Lloyd role for what its worth.

This is where my head is at right now anyway. Anyone else want to have a go?

Of course it is. But with young players you'll get inconsistency, especially when their senior counterparts don't lead the way.
Ours have been very good this year, but it was too much yesterday.

You're on it mate, like usual

Club will be desperate for a 50+ game best 22 type so the early pick strategy will only be looked at after we've exhausted those options

Yes we did it last week & have done so many times throughout the year but 25% of our team had at most 12 games experience in an always changing team week to week. This is not a good thing for consistent performances & we don't have them.
Geelong did it this week but couldn't do it last week & so did Collingwood who did it this week but couldn't do it last week & Brisbane did it last week but for some reason couldn't do it this week & the Saints beat Melbourne a few weeks back now but haven't been able to do it again so that is the game of a simple person you are playing & you are clearly not simple.

So you just dig into your research cave a little further & you'll understand that with inexperience comes much inconsistency.
Now that is AN excuse BUT not the reason we lost.
We erred at selection & that is no excuse. Having watched the first half again, we were way too big & fatigued early to do anything about the problem which was Gold Coast's running.

Your turn now.

Excellent.
I would give Foote a 5 year deal at 400K each year being the only change to your thoughts. Just so I have some ammo on here.;)
That should allow us to get McGovern & I can really see after yesterday why we may do such an abhorrent thing to the rest of the competition, as if getting Buddy to our club wasn't abhorrent enough.

Looking at the Swans list it is pretty clear that some guys need to move on, I also think we have some really good guys to build this team around.

Need to go.
Kieran Jack- Played some good footy last year but it's time to make the call.
Marsh- Average player ok depth, taking up a spot on our list that could be used for a bigger built defender.
Jordan Foote- No good.
Jarrad McVeigh- Fantastic player for a lot of years and would be great in our coaches box.

Trade
Jake Lloyd- Plenty of guys to step into his role, if we could get something half decent for him I'd be happy.
Sam Reid- (if anyone wants him) We play our best football when this guy is in the team, his body has let him down too many times so need to look for potential suitors. Don't even care if we get nothing, as long as they take the contract.
Dan Hannebery- Although carrying an injury it's been tough to watch his decline, same as above take the contract and he's yours.

Bring in.
Midfielders- We need six midfielders that can run thru the middle, Kennedy has around two years left so need to relace him.
Inside Mids-Short by a three.
Josh Kennedy-Been a fine servant but we need to prepare for life after him.
Luke Parker-He will lead our next crop.
Issac Heeney- This is the guy we build our next team around.
Outside mids- Short a three
Oliver Florent-Starting to show signs of we drafted him so high.
Zak Jones-Good running outside mid and skills are fine.
Dan Hannebery-Hope he makes a good comeback next year but not holding my breath.

Target
Dom Tyson-
Inside mid that wouldn't cost much and would allow Parker to play forward more often. Sam Murray pick or whatever we get for Lloyd?
Angus Brayshaw- Looks like a great player that we could get on the cheap, would you take the punt with his concussion history? 2019 1st rounder
Mitch Wallis- Not playing great footy but could be a solid second change mid.

Add in a few players in the right age bracket to challenge while we still have Buddy playing well.

Also I wish people would stop suggesting we delist players like Towers, Marsh, Robinson, Newman, Fox etc as while none of them may be best 22 players it is important to have depth players on our list. The players we delist are the ones that don't play games at all, or can't play a role if the need arises.

I could probably handle trading our first and paying Brayshaw, I like his character, kicking well and looking like a solid contributor but he is a risk, guys like CEY, Dom Tyson would have to agree to play for 150K and not be guaranteed best 22.

Too many of them and they clog the list. Which is why I have said retain some of them.

Welcome to do your own predictions on what we might do.

Yours aren't bad, but I would not be delisting Grundy as I think Grundy still has something to offer in 2019 and we don't have a ready made replacement for him anyway. I would also look to trade Newman and Robinson but if a trade can't be found I would be happy to keep them. Other than that I agree with what you wrote.

Agree I can't see anyone we could get on the cheap to replace him, Roughead from the bulldogs but that's not a super get...

Not bad imo , Mills needs to go to the middle or be trade bait etc

Not sure kennedy has 2 years left to be honest

Ours have been very good this year, but it was too much yesterday.
I think the one point I’d agree with on the leadership experience is that we could see at times where it lacked, eg buddy taking the ball and calling from mccartin instead of telling him to have the shot

No way I'm giving up anything for Brayshaw who is one KO from retirement. Wallis can't kick and is the very last player we need right now - though I love his effort. Pretty hard to find gun mids, isn't it?
