I'd take a punt on him, 2 year deal with behaviour clauses. Why not? He's exactly the player we actually need, speed and footskills.
I just mean we could probably get him external to that trade. Throwing in a player like Hall when trading out Lloyd would diminish what we'd get for Lloyd. Could mean the difference of a round 1 pick for Lloyd vs a round 2 pick plus Hall. I'd prefer the first option should they be dropping Hall either way - it's not an argument about signing Hall at all. I agree, he'd be worth the gamlbe

Can someone explain to me the reasoning as to why player salaries are not revealed to the public like they are in American sports?

I've tried researching and have found nothing. I assume it's an Australian thing.

Do people really think we are going to want a player who was not getting a game at GC due to a lack of effort in defense!? I can see we need a player of his quick thinking and feet - just can't see Horse taking him with a rep like that - at least not at the $$ Carlton etc will put to him. They'll pay him 450 - 500 maybe?
I hope Lloyd, Newman, Macca lands us a pick around 12. Can Cunningham take on Lloyd's role next year, while Stoddart and Ling develop.

I really don't see the point in Moore unless we are getting him at little cost trade wise. Only makes sense if we are trading Reid. Far bigger issues for us surely.

I don't think Cunningham has anywhere near the required level of composure for Lloyd's role. Lloyd himself isn't necessarily our most composed, but at least he can think his way out of traffic most of the time. Cunningham is horrible in traffic.

Accept some of what you say about Richie. However this year he has improved heaps and he is one of the few players in the team unqualified for work in the abattoir.

Agree he has made some improvements this year and is comfortably holding his spot at the moment, but that still doesn't mean he has the composure to play the Lloyd role.

One passage on Saturday summed it up for me though - Cunningham in traffic, a gap opens up for him to accelerate out, and instead he short-handballs to JPK who had an opponent already hanging off his back. Just really simple stuff like that.

If Lloyd was to leave and If we were to get Moore to go in defence for me it would be:

Melican and Moore 1st/2nd KPP defender
Aliir third tall
Rampe to take Lloyd’s spot

Then you’d have COR, Cunningham and Smith.

Aliir, Rampe, COR and Cunningham can all run it out of defence with the first three of those also strong marks overhead.
Smith to take the smalls.

Something like that.

Edit: Jones and Mills could also spend some time there. Some flexibility in matchups.

Because the AFLPA is stronger than any American union
True about the AFLPA, but I also think that would breach the privacy laws unless the players agreed... but not sure.

I suspect this is like shooting Bambi, but I think Smithy's time may be limited. He had a strong start to the season but has had some ordinary games, admittedly in a defence that has to repel an absurd number I50's. His dire kicking in these circumstances has come under more pressure and is partly responsible for our inability to clear it from the backline.

He has been a wonderful servant but if push came to shove, I'd rather we retain Reg. At the very best I do not think he will be offered any more than a year by the Swans. I wonder if he is considering his options.

He is still a terrific reader of the game, highly disciplined and a wonderful organiser of the backline. This will have appeal to some other Clubs who may be willing to offer him a 2 year+ contract. Freo and the Filth (Carlton) may be interested.

Nowadays he might be worth a 3rd rounder for us. Like Macca he possesses a smart footy brain and he is the only other Swan I can see on our list who has a future coaching career. This is not a knock on Smithy but more looking ahead for him and for how I expect our list management may work in the Dalrymple/Beatson era.

I like Cunningham on the wing and more forward though. He and Florent are the guys we want to have delivering the ball inside 50 because they can hit a target
