Can someone explain to me the reasoning as to why player salaries are not revealed to the public like they are in American sports?

I've tried researching and have found nothing. I assume it's an Australian thing.
Because it's none of yours or my business.

Some are, Tedeski always knew Tippetts salary and how it had been lowered

I suspect this is like shooting Bambi, but I think Smithy's time may be limited. He had a strong start to the season but has had some ordinary games, admittedly in a defence that has to repel an absurd number I50's. His dire kicking in these circumstances has come under more pressure and is partly responsible for our inability to clear it from the backline.

He has been a wonderful servant but if push came to shove, I'd rather we retain Reg. At the very best I do not think he will be offered any more than a year by the Swans. I wonder if he is considering his options.

He is still a terrific reader of the game, highly disciplined and a wonderful organiser of the backline. This will have appeal to some other Clubs who may be willing to offer him a 2 year+ contract. Freo and the Filth (Carlton) may be interested.

Nowadays he might be worth a 3rd rounder for us. Like Macca he possesses a smart footy brain and he is the only other Swan I can see on our list who has a future coaching career. This is not a knock on Smithy but more looking ahead for him and for how I expect our list management may work in the Dalrymple/Beatson era.

Unless you delist Smith though i doubt anyone trades for him

I think it is clear that Grundy, McVeigh and Smith are all very near the end of their careers. I don't think any have any real trade value, so that's not really a consideration. What is a consideration is how do we transition the defence through to the absence of all three. Personally, I don't think you want to lose all three at once, and I think Smith is the one that still gives us the most and also the one who does not have a clear replacement on the list already, so I'd be inclined to give him another year.

Where you getting that Punts ? Mail I'm getting is he is about a minute from recommitting and that's not from what was supposed to have been said by Pickering last week on radio either.
My mail came from someone high up at another club and one big reason was to get out of Melbourne and Sydney suited his lifestyle.

Could be totally wrong but my mail he has already told the pies that he wants to explore his options and Sydney is he preferred club
Also said the he sees him self as a backman and the role proposed by Sydney is something he is excited about

The Pies wanted lynch and were low balling Moore

Stilll be rapped with Hunt ( speed of HB) and an insider like Wallace or Tyson , and a outsider like Polec or Hall
Out of that lot I would take Hunt and Tyson. In fact Tyson especially would be handy. Nothing special just knows his way around the contest which is what we're lacking.

Hunt would kind of be a bonus but we also have a few quick HB flankers so not essential
