So guys, did a bit of a review of the players that were getting a game in the best 22 last year.
A curious fact - only 2 of them (Brayshaw and Cerra) were high draft picks. (You could argue they are too young to be having an impact anyway)
Seriously, out entire team of regular players (with the exception of Reece Conca) were drafted after pick 20.
We were moaning all year about the lack of skills, is this a coincidence?
Something has seriously gone wrong when we only have 1 player between the ages of 22 - 30, who is a top 10 pick and getting a game.

It might have to do with the fact that we have been aggressively trading the past 4 years + before that we were consistently in the top 8.

Hell when we made the granny we had 2 top 10 picks in Pav and Hill. Would rather pay attention to the development of blokes we do trade in early then whether or not we had a top 10 pick

We've had some pretty rough luck with our first round pick in recent history. Getting * all football out of Mora, Pitt, Simpson and Apeness has hurt.

Hopefully Brayshaw, Cerra and our top picks this year go some way to ending the curse.

Need Logue to start to come on. Need games into Sturt.

All things going well in 3 years is when we can be any sort of contender.

Need someone like Tucker to pop.

Would love it if it’s Cerra. Brayshaw is tracking for fine numbers. Darcy to own the ruck.

Our spine if healthy is actually good IMO. On paper Hogan, Lobb, Pearce and Hamling have the makings of a top 4 spine. Add some flesh to it in Taberner, Logue and build out around that with Ryan, Wilson, Walters and Matera and you have something.

Need the midfield to develop.

On paper we have a top 8 list.

Reece Conca was a pick #7 and he played every game.

Stephen Hill and Griffin Logue are the only other players on our list that fit your criteria. Both played every game they were available. Hogan was really a pick #2 equivalent and he played every game he was fit as well.

Aish was a top 10 pick and Acres a top 20 pick. I suspect both will be b22.

The reality is though two of our most skilful players/best kicks were picks #53 (Walters) and Ryan (#66). So it's not all about early picks.

It is a bit arbitrary to use "top 10" as any sort of indicator. Including top 10 players from other clubs, we have Hogan, Hill, Logue, Cerra, Brayshaw, Conca and Aish. More than Richmond (5) and WC (4). And WC won a flag when 3 of their top 10 picks were injured.

If only Morabito and Bennell weren't made out of tissue paper. We'd have even more top 10 players, but those guys would have actually made a difference.

Reece Conca was the one guy I was referring to. Logue didn't play much last year - either did Hill.

says as much about the risk of overvaluing draft picks as anything. fair enough you want to see good return on early picks, but a team full of Fyfe, Walters, Neale, Ryan etc types would look pretty good

2020 - we will have about 6 debutants all of those from the 2018 and 2019 draft. Get Sturt on at half forward and Valente a few games in the guts or off half back. Bring Cerra into the guts and see how he goes. As for our 4 or so picks this year - say we get Stephen, Robertson, Henry and Sharp... they could easily slide into the side and play a role. It’s exciting times for freo, we have one of the youngest lists and with the injection of these blokes as well as Brayshaw and Cerra being only 21/22 it’s only going to end well.
