Councils are democratically elected. They reflect the values of their voters. If they didn't like it, they'd vote them out.

Why do you hate democracy?
Sydney City Council isnt democratically elected. 50% of rate payers who provide 95% of the revenue are not able to vote.

If you don't live somewhere but have a business there you should have less rights than the residents.

Your business is less important than human lives.

Businesses aren't living entities so they don't deserve the same rights as humans that breathe air.

Isn't that obvious?

The businesses have no rights and pay for decisions which affect them but have zero influence on. Other than the usual local council bribery and corruption path.

You didnt say they are not important, so I assume you think they should have some input in how their money gets spent?

Same rules should apply at all levels (at least until we get rid of councils or at least line them up with state electorates and make thr local state mbr responsible for them instead), only citizens living there should get votes. No foreigners, no businesses.

Except in other cases and even in pretty much every other council the rate payers, tax payers, etc pay a very large proportion of the tax.

Its really only the CBDs where businesses fund the vast majority of the revenue. That is why there is always a push for businesses to get a vote there, but it is never really discussed elsewhere.

That said, this is probably dragging the topic away.

I wouldn't have the slightest objection to the date of Australia Day being moved.

I don't know why those who are getting their knickers in a twist about the "issue" are so outraged to be honest.
Outrage is their shtick.

Take it away and they have nothing but alternative facts left, and outrage is a very useful distraction to all their alternative facts.

A list of the councils who refuse to have Australia day on Australia day.

Yarra City Vict

Darebin Vict

Mooreland Vict

Inner West NSW

Fremantle WA

Flinders Is Tas

Launceston Tas.

Generally it seem to be inner city suburban self anointed Greens and Labor 'educated' elites who installed themselves in the old working class suburbs particularly in Melbourne and Sydney.

Our real working class would be rolling in their graves at the thought of these numpty radicals who have divorced themselves from reality.

This is how far these lunatics have gone....

Yarra City Council has taken another step towards no longer recognising Australia Day by asking staff to stop using the term while at work.

The inner-north Melbourne council released a briefing to its 1000 employees on January 15 detailing the new approach.

Employees were directed to refer to the day as the "January 26 public holiday" when at work and speaking to the public.

Discuss .....
Inner west is made up of the council's that didn't want any Jewish businesses or organisations that did business with Israel either.

I wonder who they actually are for.

Standby for that to increase, Jews are leaving France ATM, everyone knows why, Demographics point to Muslim majority at some point in time in nearly all of Western Europe, some countries quicker than others.

Eastern Europe on the other hand have built fences to keep illegal immigrants out (mainly Muslims) and are some of the safest places on earth ATM.

It is 8.8% in France - mainly as a result of French colonisation of Africa - hardly enough to form a "Muslim majority"

Why do you people sprout this alarmist crap?

Ok, so "they have no real idea" but its definitely gonna be a Muslim majority

Seems legit
Stop the BS mate, they have quantified 8.8% of legal citizen in France to be Muslim, but the illegal immigration is on top of those stats, estimated 400,000 alone in one part of Paris

So you are wrong, very wrong.

They are a much younger demographic who have more kids, they will at some stage be a majority.

Managed to type it in yet - i doubt it - head in sand mentality.
