Also instead of playing Omac and Smith why didn't we give Tmac a run in defence? Very strange.

In hindsight though him being dropped might be like when Frawley left and he had already told the club. Probably told us he's leaving or vice versa
I was speaking to another Melbourne supporter about this..

I think its pretty damming on McDonald's behalf that Joel Smith was getting a game ahead of both Oscar and Tom down back.

Is he actually worth tabling a massive offer for?

I think so. It won’t be a silly Tom Boyd level offer but expect something in the 5years x $800 range.

When you consider we have been paying Tom McDonald that same amount it seems reasonable.

And if people want to quibble over the 5 years, we’ll that’s what we gave a middling B grader like Harmes.

I'd be filthy if we were throwing big money at McKay. I don't think he'd fit in well with Weideman as both are more immobile FF types, and he's not that young anymore I think he's capable of kicking 40 goals in the right team but I don't think he'll ever be a top 5 coleman type of guy. What we need is a true CHF to compliment Weid, Jackson, and Fritsch, and there just happens to be 2 of the best that appear to be on the market right now in Gunston and Jeremy Cameron.

Passing on a couple of rumours I’ve heard lads and lasses. Make of them what you will.

- The club recognises bringing in a KPF as priority number one. We are going after Harry McKay with a very lucrative deal in $$ and years that the Blues will be hard pressed to compete with given their recent splurge on imported talent. Martin and Williams alone will take up $2m of their cap space next season. They have a surplus of key forwards and we believe we can shake McKay loose.

- Tom McDonald to the Kangaroos. His brother will be delisted. The McDonald era at Melbourne is no more.

- One of Brayshaw or Viney won’t be at the club next season. The club would prefer that player be Gus.

- Saad rumour is true we are keen but so are others.

I'd be happy if these rumours were true

I rate McKay of the Carlton variety, 204cm and a great mark

Saad would be icing on the cake

B - Smith, May, Hibberd
HB - Saad, Lever, Rivers
C - Langdon, Viney, Salem
HF - Vandenberg, McKay, Melksham
F - Pickett, Weideman. Fritsch
Ruck - Gawn, Oliver, Petracca
Int - Tomlinson, Spargo,

How so? Both contracted young key forwards. There’s your first similarity right there.
One was a homesick player, the other is a Victorian at a Victorian club. With McGovern barely able to get on the park, Curnow also barely able to get on the park and Cas inconsistent and wrong side of 30 now why would we trade him? And if it's money I can assure getting at player in at anywhere from 750-900, no one knows the exact but it's in that range isn't going to suddenly put us in cap pressure, especially after massively front ending Martin's contract and still not getting near the cap limit. Only other thing is if we really wanted Viney and if we really wanted to he is a free agent?

Boyd was traded after GWS chased after Griffen and needed the deal done so dogs threw crazy offers back.
GWS had Patton, Cameron, Lobb and Boyd and had salary cap issues. Boyd was a Victorian who was interstate who had home sickness issues. GWS didn't really care about losing him.

I could keep going but to think a top 15 pick who's Victorian who's already at a Vic club who want him is leaving for us is pie in the sky shit and I'm happy to hear your apology in a couple months when nothing happens.

Hunt and Spargo deserve a decent crack in 2021

Not sure about Jackson on a wing or the small backline

Melbourne are ahead of Carlton in terms of development and potential to reach the top four as early as next season. Not saying the Blues aren’t making progress, but the Dees have the defence, engine room and sprinkling of bona fide stars (Petracca, Gawn, Oliver, May) needed to challenge for a flag. It will be very tempting for McKay and his manager to be told that we believe he is the last piece of our premiership puzzle.

The Blues top priority has to be to bring in inside mids to support Cripps, or he is going to be bashed and crashed into submission by the time he’s 27. He’s already showing the wear and tear.

Tomlinson the spare parts man can go back at a pinch. Jackson is a freak athlete who would relish the space of the MCG wings. Plays like a ruck rover in much the same way Fraser Gehrig did when he was a skinny kid at West Coast.

Should of just drafted Ben King when we had the chance, McKay is ok but not worth anywhere near 800k a year

I would be happy with McKay, and it makes sense given the Blues current position.

But... a monster offer is not a great, unless it is back-ended and incentive based.

He's talented, but hasn't proven tonnes and is unreliable in front of goal.

In five years $800k will be the equivalent of $600k now in football wage terms. It’s not outlandish especially when you are wresting a quality player out of a rival club.

The Blues are paying Jack Martin $750k and will pay Zac Williams a half back flanker $800k+. These are the sums clubs are dealing with for top end talent like it or not.

Only slightly with development, we have Kemp who is a big unknown in the Afl setup but does have ability and you were quite big on him to come in, Curnow hopefully staying on the park, Newman who is a solid citizen as well as now Williams to come in. I'm not saying they get us there but they help, where as you are hoping banking and selling to McKay that he is your final piece. Really can't see it happening and there are and will continue to be a lot of inside mids hit the market we could stump up picks for without trading McKay.

He’s done nothing to suggest he’s worth 800k or 5 years yet or that he’s a top end talent

In 33 games across 18-19 which was his second and 3rd season he kicked 47.41 from 195 marks

In 30 games Ben King has kicked 41.29 from 95 marks

Yet apparently King is this generational behemoth and the other is an average player.
