David Mackay had the best work ethic of any of our players in his time at the club. Did everything right on the track and got the most out of his body/skill level that he could

That would appear to be the whole truth ad nothing but the truth.

Wasn't there some talk he might be lining up in the SANL next season?

I heard Josh Jenkins on radio this morning saying that we were always way stricter with skin folds than other clubs. Apparently the S and C staff at the time said that skin folds that low could theoretically hinder performance etc.

Hope so, as he is a talented young lad. If he can get his fitness to where it is required we may be in for some very pleasant surprises, including the odd burst in the middle.
he played in the middle last year when he was dropped back to sanfl level.. he‘s definitely got a good footy brain and the talent.

hopefully last season was just him adjusting to AFL.. he has the potential to be a matchwinner.

Talking about his personal wellbeing and mental health issues he's had that he thinks he's on top of now.
Heavy.

Last couple of years would have been tough on a lot of people, and he's had some s**t going on.

Hopefully he is on top of it and the club provides the right environment for him to be in.

Great to hear that he is addressing things. Hopefully he does get on top of it all. Sometimes we just have to learn to manage our situations and patiently wait for improvement. The spotlight these guys are under is intense, as it is for a lot of us in the workplace and in many and various other spheres of life. Pressure to perform and succeed is great. Terms such as performance anxiety and status anxiety come to mind, but there are just so many other factors: genetic, environmental, etc. Often a lot of self awareness and personal growth helps, and sometimes this only comes with time. Rise up Fish and ride the wave!

Did Jimmy have that jawline last year?

They weren't joking when they said he's been putting in the work.

Will be interesting what we see with that second preseason under the belt. Would love our forwards all able to wrk up and back and be hit up 50 out. Multiple options, multiple depths and widths is so much harder to defend than just wanting deep entries on the top of whoever happens to be there.

in that photo it looks like he’s lost a hell of a lot of weight even in his face..

maybe the Rochele pick.. along with the half a dozen other small mid/forward types we grabbed in the draft.. has really put the wind up him..

Reckon few factors at play.

1. Second preseason having come in chunky in the first place to a fairly average fitness dept.
2. After first season would have realised how off the pace he was in terms of 4 quarter fitness and would have certainly done more than the minimum expected over the xmas 'break'.
3. He was dropped a couple of times last year, so he knows his spot is not guaranteed.
4. More competition as you say.
5. We've gone from probably the worst fitness dept to being near the best. At the very least, we've got the most highly regarded bloke running the show.

The improvement won't be as obvious in most of our players as none were carrying the puppy fat that Rowie was. But just because they're not carrying condition, doesn't mean that they're in the top bracket of fitness levels for their roles. But there's no doubt that they'll all be fitter.

How can you possibly say that?
Were you there?

We know we've been told very often how professional he was in his preparation and great at training. But reality is that we get told that about most players. We get told when players haven't been as professional as required and we get told how great they are. When was the last time you heard someone described as just average at preparation and professionalism. My best guess would be that Dmac's level of preparation has become an urban myth that was necessary to provide some reasoning as to how he could continue to be selected whilst being so blatantly an ineffectual player despite having all the experience required to be in our top dozen players.

You guessed wrong sorry. Mackay one the most diligent and professional athletes to go through the AFL system in the last 20 years.
