Why did they then say they would register him without any promises which was what was reported.

If they had no intention of picking him up which appears to be the case, why weren’t they honest with him and told him this and why?

They reportedly told him a week ago they weren't drafting him, so he knew well before the draft.

Comments in here saying he intentionally missed training sessions and lacked maturity.

His choice now to knuckle down and put his best foot forward to demand a spot on the list, or go and muck around with his mates and forget an AFL career.

Media reported we told him days ago we weren’t taking him so he wasn’t exactly riding every pick waiting for when we’d call his name.

Retaining his rights and not stringing him along on draft night seems like the nicest way to handle a pretty grim situation for a kid to have to go through.

Yes. The point? The club has outright said that one of the priorities in the off season was to get a bit more maturity into the list, not just load up on 18 year olds and hope they can work it all out.

So yes, they did prioritise Macrae, Dev, Schoenberg and Cripps over Banfield. Because the list was just getting too young. They've said this.

You might not agree with it as a plan, but you can't say that it's happened because of egregious mistakes - it's happened because that's the actual plan they were going with.

The problem is that places like this see someone like Banfield and latch on tight, and when something else happens, it's time to melt to the ground, rather than ask the logical question why it happened. In this case, clearly that he wasn't rated earlier than a rookie pick - we hoped he'd get there and take the Cat-B that we had opened, but it wasn't to be.

Imagine typing all of this, when you could just say "the plan was a mistake"

After refreezing overnight and having some time to muse over the events of the past 2 days C minus is about the right assessment of the drafting this year.

Duursma as good as he is is behind Uwland Dean & Annable possibly Patterson. Reality is he's a pick 4 maybe pick 5 in an uncompromised draft. I know blokes don't want to hear it and the truth hurts but it is what it is. Looking at the family history in the AFL thus far he'll be a solid if unspectacular HBFer with potential to go through the midfield.

CDT is a massive reach. Does he ruck? Does he go forward? Brander Mk2? Generally speaking big lads need a looooong time to get going and CDT is as raw as they get. Not expecting any impact until 2027 at best. Unicorns are rare and unicorns who deliver are even rarer.

Lindsay is a good pickup. Solid citizen with a dardy boot. The manner in which he arrived was diabolical at worst and comical at best. Unparallelled foolishness from the clowns crunching the numbers. Anyone thinking it was some carefully organised heist needs a drug test and lie down.

Allen one from left field. Numbers stack up prior to the ACL. Outside mid with strengths in endurance and athleticism ticks the box. Could be a Chesser or could be a Gaff who can jump.

Fred Rodriguez good pickup. Alarming he slid all the way to the rookie draft but happy to have at least one full time mid picked up.

The less said about the tomfoolery with Banfield & Evans the better. Club has got a long way to go to rebuild the relationship with supporters. 2 spoons in 3 years a single win season the '24 trade fiasco and then amatuer behaviour during this draft is wearing many thin. Get it together or get gone.

This is pin to the top of the thread-worthy. Just outstanding.

May not get to those heights if we drafted him today.

No issues with leaving Walley out this year.

What's the better long-term result though?

'Reward' him with a spot this year, despite lacking commitment and half-arsing it and getting de-listed after a year

Or

He pulls his finger out next year, realises he wants to be a professional AFL player and gives it his all to become a 1st round worthy talent?

I'm taking option #2 myself.

Anyway, I’m not across the draft this year, for us, certainly have knowledge about WCE.
But is it right that you guys no longer have that F2?
If not, what happened to it?
And do the new owners have your sense of humour?

I’m well on board with this being an incredibly generous reading, but do we think this might be the wake up call that helps him make it? And ticking along business as usual he might have been the latest highly talented footballer that never amounts to much?

As I say super generous reading but I for one will be ****ing stoked if we have to spend a first rounder on him next year. Doesn’t seem to be the trajectory he’s on currently and it will be a big win for the team if he gets to that tier.

We flicked it to the Hawks to move up in the first round and bid on two GC kids then take Lindsay. A clear overpay to move up one spot asking most on here, albeit we’re happy with the kid we walked away with.

Sadly, based on most Hawks poster antics in our Hawks Death Ride Megathread last year, 90% of them do not have a sense of humour or brain cell to spare. Some good eggs, but you’d have had a better year with us mate.
