Trade up we did seems like throwing away a F2, but looking at who was left available after Lindsay, was the trade up really to guarantee the Addinsall bid couldn't be matched, or because if it was matched we would be drafting the next talent tier down at pick 20 instead of 19?

I refuse to believe the club is this inept, that they wouldn't bid on Patterson but instead rely on an 80 point (post 10% discount) difference in points between GC being able to match and not. Especially as live trading means GC could always find a way to bring extra points in.

Perhaps they weren’t allowed to bid (by the AFL informally).

It would have made for incredibly boring and frustrating tv.

Was bad enough as it was.

Thredgold, Phillipou, NHH my favourites

Consider Emmett, Greeves, Ludowyke, Fred, BOB, Dalton.

I wouldn’t match any of our NGAs TBH, the talent in those groups is far greater.

Looking like a significant blunder not having more main list spots after giving Cripps, Bazzo and Cole one year extensions.

Probably was never in our plans since we added Schoenberg & Macrae to the rookie list already. Good to see us making our WAFL team the priority...

With all the talk on the premium on R2 picks because of academy bidding next year, I can't wrap my head around why we would throw away a pick with significant value for a 1 pick slide. If the hawks wanted Lindsay they wouldn't have done the trade. So he would have been there at our next unless they played us by feigning the Dogs interest in the pick.

I refuse to believe professionals could get the bid matching calculations wrong.

The other thing to consider is that even GC can technically afford it they have no real need for Addinsall. There was still the chance they don’t match regardless.

Which means Hawks would have gotten a free F2.

If North bid on Williams with the first pick of the second round the Eagles will need to use 561 points to match minus 197 points of discount = 364 points.

The eagles have picks
29 = 479 points.
34 = 360 points.
