I’d rather have had at a look at Banfield than continue to pay Barnett or have Cripps senior list not rookie list.

But I just don’t see why people let shit like this derail their headspace relating to our draft.

Love who we got, you can’t walk away with every bit of talent, we move.

I do rate the voice of reason approach and know that in isolation your point makes sense.

Guess I'm just annoyed that the above two moves you've mentioned (Cripps/Barnett) would have cost us nothing but Barnett.

Am never usually too upset with say hindsight analysing our drafting and realising we could have picked player X who ended up developing really well - it's not an exact science and environment IMO is a massive impact. Not melting over Allen for this reason, think he could be great.

But for a club who've taken the "Give everything the 85% effort approach" let alone 110% it's just a frustrating capoff to something that was already frustrating in the Cripps/Barnett situation but worth holding off on melts over until we saw how the draft played out. Now that we've seen how it's played out, it's been the worst case scenario regarding bids, I think it's fair to be annoyed in a blanket sense at our list management which has led to the drafting outcome.

Agreed our picks in isolation were fine but we could have done very little and risked not much at all (Barnett) to be in a far better position - not the absolute end of the world but when a bunch of 'not the end of the world' stuff adds up you do become an 85% effort club and not a 110% effort club.

Bid on both Murray and Addinsall to get Addinsall
Trade pick 29 away to Hawthorn for the deal we did
Trade future third for a current third
Matched Evans, Williams and Banfield with 41 , 52 and current third

Put Will Phillipps on the main list

Go to rookie draft and take pick 1, Dev, Cripps and Cole. Put Walley as cat B and best available at

Massey is responsible for the draft yes but our issue is not having enough list spots which is in list management which is Clarke’s domain.

It's more that in 12 months time we'll be in a similar position and looking to cut at the list hard before the Tassie draft.

We also have targeted players we need to be competitive on field sooner. You can blame that on the balance of players available at the top end of the draft.

Again as a club we've gotten ourselves into a mess because from the outside looking in it looks we have become sloppy and are not doing the little things right.

The club may not rate those players but if they did some pretty basic list management they could have had at least one list spot open to have a free swing without costing us anything (moving Cripps to the rookie list).

You can say these things don't matter and we should just be happy and trust the right decisions have been made. I feel like that's how the club has been operating for quite a while, it's only a small thing - it doesn't matter. Well if enough little things aren't looked after you might finish bottom 4 four years in a row and have the worst season in AFL history.

Didn’t go in with enough list spots in favour of a 40yo low production forward with a year to go in Cripps, and Barnett who will be delisted as soon as the season ends.

Matched a bid on another low production forward and missed out on our FS big bodied mid who had a cracking end to the year. Absolutely no need to go in with the strategy we did.

Writing seemed to be on the wall when we waited until the last moment to nominate our interest in our ngas and f/s and up front that there was no guarantees.
