And a song to sing as we watch,

Hey Matty Clarke by Kevin (Random260) Wilson :

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

If I wanted a stupid ruckman type, I would’ve bloody asked
And this half back flank and temu mid, you can shove right up your arse
You’ve stuffed the bloody order up, it’s enough to make you spew
But it’s not just me who’s snakey, SGIO is dirty too

Next time I come to see ya, I’m going to punch you in the guts
And I’ll sack the other recruiting knobs and kick Toddy in the nuts
You just wait 'til next year when you go back to the draft
And me and me little GIO come stomping through the door
And we'll say, yeah, you wait for it

Hey Pyke and Woosh you smell his breath
And check his bloodshot eyes
And don't listen to him eagles fans 'cause he tells ****ing lies
He's just a ****ing useless campaigner and he's not even very bright
'Cause the stupid ****in' w***er, forgot me ****in' Sharp

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

It's funny how it interrupted the lyrics XD

I do rate the voice of reason approach and know that in isolation your point makes sense.

Guess I'm just annoyed that the above two moves you've mentioned (Cripps/Barnett) would have cost us nothing but Barnett.

Am never usually too upset with say hindsight analysing our drafting and realising we could have picked player X who ended up developing really well - it's not an exact science and environment IMO is a massive impact. Not melting over Allen for this reason, think he could be great.

But for a club who've taken the "Give everything the 85% effort approach" let alone 110% it's just a frustrating capoff to something that was already frustrating in the Cripps/Barnett situation but worth holding off on melts over until we saw how the draft played out. Now that we've seen how it's played out, it's been the worst case scenario regarding bids, I think it's fair to be annoyed in a blanket sense at our list management which has led to the drafting outcome.

Agreed our picks in isolation were fine but we could have done very little and risked not much at all (Barnett) to be in a far better position - not the absolute end of the world but when a bunch of 'not the end of the world' stuff adds up you do become an 85% effort club and not a 110% effort club.
Last point a ripper. Little incremental losses adding up. None individually worth the melt they all received, but slowly adding up.

People missing their pants because we didn't draft a player they convinced themselves were some hidden gem, despite no other clubs going near them early on, is just nauseating.
No one is arguing that Banfield will be a future Brownlow medalist.

Draftees are like lottery tickets, you can't tell if you're going to win, or how much you're going to win. But you definitely know the cost.

Banfield was going to cost us almost nothing.

We would have a free hit at a best-22 player in a position of need who is the son of a dual premiership Eagle, for the grand old price of a single main list spot.

We ran out of 5c coins and couldn't afford to buy it, embarrassing when we want his brother to play for West Coast in 12 months' time.

And now 53 is also a bid... It's a farce...

Essendon match H.El Achkar - because they have list spots as well.

They also lost Sweid because they didn’t have enough points

Or they just didn’t rate Evans/Banfield that highly.

I’d rather have had at a look at Banfield than continue to pay Barnett or have Cripps senior list not rookie list.

But I just don’t see why people let shit like this derail their headspace relating to our draft.

Love who we got, you can’t walk away with every bit of talent, we move.
Banfield will have more impact than Williams.

I would of drafted Charlie Banfield at Sam Allen pick
then matched Koby Evans bid and then lost Tylah Wlliams
That's what people that know how good these 2 can be would clearly have done.
Williams averages less than a goal a game. Which is slightly worse than Walley. Allen is coming off an ACL and only averaged 11 touches as a midfielder in 2024.
All we needed was to delist 2 more players and/or commit to re-rookieing them.
Surprised there are so many Clarke/Massey/Toddy co defenders completely disregarding this fact.

feels like CB did perform..

ok. so did many others. Allen performed. no-one would have blinked an eye had he not been drafted. I don't want club to be bringing players in for other reasons other than best for the team. and if Massey + recruitment team did what they thought was best, then thats all we can ask for.time will obviously tell on what would have been a better selection. eaglevision will remind us year on year.

Wat.

Cripps is 34 going into next season... Ryan just turned 29.

Are you really that daft to need that pointed out to you? 😐
The irony with how the Liam Ryan trade finally wound up is that we would have been better off holding onto Ryan and retiring Cripps

Have we?

We just took the best player in the draft, who plays midfield, but because people have convinced themselves he's not one, they think picking mids in the third round in a weak draft will solve our issues.

The players we currently have need time to develop and we'll probably move on a bunch of blokes next year in a better draft for mids.

Blame the previous admin for the shithouse situation we're in but as Pyke said last draft, this is a 4 year plan, not a 12 month one. It may work out great, it may fail but we're years off knowing that.

At this stage, we have 2x #1 picks and a #2 pick who will make up the core of our midfield going forward.

People missing their pants because we didn't draft a player they convinced themselves were some hidden gem, despite no other clubs going near them early on, is just nauseating.
Oi, stop making sense and start melting buddy.

Haven't you heard of guys like:
Nick Bryan
James Rowe
Miller Bergman
Jed Adams

All absolute jets and future HoF all drafted with pick 38.
Wake up west coast ya clowns

Another thing to be mindful of is next years nga talent coming through. Isn’t it rated higher than this year?

The moment we took Allen (
Token injured player) I knew we lost Banfield or Evans.

I'm laughing now.

Boardwide meltdown on speculative pick🤣

We got the best, and arguably the 2nd best prospects this year.

Cripps, evens or whoever aren't turning the tide around.
With the top 2 picks, you would like to think we would get the best 2 players!

If you are suggesting that the picks and trades that follow are therefore immune to criticism, I don't agree.
