If we rookied Cripps and didn't commit to Schoenberg we would literally have both of them on our list this afternoon.

We match the bid for Banfield and pick Fred at 1 in the Rookie draft.

Instead of blowing your lid off of no info, go back and read posts around 1:30pm and you'll see it's suggested he missed training sessions and didn't take it seriously this year.

You want to reward someone with that attitude a spot, or let them prove themselves over the summer and add them before the season starts if they pull their finger out?

Yes. The point? The club has outright said that one of the priorities in the off season was to get a bit more maturity into the list, not just load up on 18 year olds and hope they can work it all out.

So yes, they did prioritise Macrae, Dev, Schoenberg and Cripps over Banfield. Because the list was just getting too young. They've said this.

You might not agree with it as a plan, but you can't say that it's happened because of egregious mistakes - it's happened because that's the actual plan they were going with.

The problem is that places like this see someone like Banfield and latch on tight, and when something else happens, it's time to melt to the ground, rather than ask the logical question why it happened. In this case, clearly that he wasn't rated earlier than a rookie pick - we hoped he'd get there and take the Cat-B that we had opened, but it wasn't to be.

Where does this leave the melts? If we put Cripps onto the rookie list, does that mean we'd have taken Banfield on the main list, and missed out on Rodriguez? Lol. I know which timeline I'm taking.

It's much better for development to have 2 of those blokes starting in the middle in the WAFL. Next to no chance more than one plays seniors at the same time, IMO.

Will be very good for the likes of Gross and Rodriguez to play midfield without being expected to be the primary ballwinner because they're surrounded by ammos.

Went down some curious pathways along the journey but overall it’s a pretty good end result

Losing the F2 we got from the Saints stings given we effectively gave away Ryan for a one pick upgrade- only the club knows how necessary that trade was to secure Lindsay as insurance if GC matched their bids

Shame about Evans and especially Banfield but right or wrong the club only rated them as rookie options. Picking up Rodriguez mitigates the Banfield miss

No real idea what went pear shaped with Walley and leaving a spot vacant isn’t ideal. Hopefully we find a way to fill that over preseason - maybe Walley can knuckle down and earn a reprieve

Ryan's use by date would have probably had 2yrs to run so using the F2 we got from the saints to help us get Lindsay was a great bit of work by our list management and recruiting staff. Well Done !!!!

No mate the whole squad would be another year older. We have only introduced 6 - 18 yr old players to our list this year. Stop exaggerating the youth angle. The other 5 players we’ve brought on board are all older and experienced.
Banfield should be on our list right now bar obvious poor list management choices.

The list just got into such an appalling state by the previous admin that they basically have to bring in some middling state league players to right the ship.

If that didn't happen, we could've used the spots to speculate on young players instead but we had so many drift misses from '18 onward that the list became a complete and utter shambles.

I think that’s a very generous assessment, as I’d have thought the better way to keep an eye on people would be on your list in a pro environment, but I can’t think of any other reason they’d leave the slot empty.

What does this all mean for his WAFL eligibility, could he wind up at the Beagles?

I’m expecting we never see him in WCE colours but I think it is another of those small mistakes that don’t mean much individually but just keep adding up.

If he was every going to added to the list you do it now, as it cost nothing to add him as a Cat B, and although highly unlikely if he does improve you run the risk that we either have to pay more or you miss out again.

I understand getting upset about the lack of list spots for Banfield and Evans, I really do. But you can't get upset about that, then get upset about nominating academy kids we didn't take.

We nominated the kids to leave the option open for recruiting them if needed. The nomination is not an agreement or acknowledgement that they will recruited, just that they could be if deemed an appropriate situation.

Now yes, no one needs to come back with a melt about Banfield and list spots etc. I get it and I agree. With regards to nominating Walley and then not taking him, imagine the pants-shitting that would be occurring if we didn't nominate him and he got picked up elsewhere.

I don’t think not recruiting Banfield was particularly popular and will be remembered for a long time, even longer if he becomes a serious player.

Under Ross the Boss Banfield could just as easily turn into a dud just like Lance Collard.

As I said earlier, why the melting last night then, and not days prior when we failed to open enough list spots?

There is nothing to comment on. There was an expected bid on Williams earlier as per media reports, this would consume our 4th pick or would see us potentially passing. This would have left us us with at least one pick to match a bid Banfield or Evans.

Honestly the commitment to 3 mature age wasn't clear until late and I didn't really digest that, and then there was always hope.
