Once more, the issue isn't with Dyson Sharp as a first round draftee, think most (or all who weren't trolling at least) were fine to take him with our eventual third pick late in the first round, the issue is with Dyson Sharp as our second pick overall (pick 2 subject to academy picks). In the end, Essendon parted with pick 13, so we shall see if it was worth it by the end of his career.

As i've stated. I wanted Sharp, i also recognised that taking at 2 would be a stretch, but trading down would have worked for me if we could have banked another asset.

I'm sure we looked at deals, but Essendon especially obviously never came to the party with the 5 and 6 we all hoped for. We all move on as a result.

Those terms aren’t contradictory at all, they’re complimentary. I’m saying those are already vindicated as it’s already proven and nothing he does will change it.

This has nothing to do with going early, he could do all of that and it doesn’t dispute my point.

The fact we could have gotten him at 13, proves we shouldn’t have picked him at 2.

As we could have traded 2 for 13 and a fair amount on top to get him.

99% of Sharp supporters by the time the draft came around that wanted him, wanted him via trading down and adding other assets though.

It's not like you're some sort of prescient god that worked out pick 2 on him might not have been advisable.

Really don't understand why nearly a week after the draft people are still losing their minds. The reasons behind our drafting has been explained ad nauseam, and the same people are still losing their minds.

I don't think we could have done any better. We added the two best open-pool talents in Duursma and CDT, as well as Lindsay, the same Lindsay that many on here wanted to trade our Hawks Rd 1 up into the top 10 just a couple of months ago (including the know-it-all who won’t shut up about how Matt “I make decisions solo” Clarke messed up by not trading up for him, even though that’s exactly what he himself wanted to do -->here<-- ).

Walley is going to have to train very strongly to earn a spot. Has just been taught a harsh lesson that things shouldn’t be taken for granted. Up to him now to show he’s learned from it

Absolutely no way of knowing exactly why the club didn’t add him, or if it was justified, and they’re not going to publicly say why. But the fact they decided to leave a spot unfilled rather than add him to the list, quite literally for free, should be taken as a good indicator there were significant issues

It’s a shame because he clearly has talent, and it may well be someone else (Carlton possibly) could be the beneficiary of the lesson he’s been given

No list spots for him unless you can add NGAs as Cat b after last Fridays cut off which doesn’t look likely.

Melbourne offered Henderson a contract at the end of his train on period with us whilst we were deciding what to do and got in first.

We can’t do the same with Walley because he’d need to be added as a Cat A rookie which we have no vacant list spots for.

I can guarantee they won't be playing for the club after there initial 3 yr contract.

Got a good feeling about this draft. Top 3 picks are locks to be pretty decent players.

If one of the other picks comes off that's going to be massive

As I understand it, the club and family agreed to part way to give him some time away from footy.

Could be wrong.

Ended up working at the club and playing for the WAFL side but after not being picked up, moved to his old club. That was when Nisbett brought in the rule that rule that if you worked at the club and played WAFL, you had to play for the BEagles. We lost a few from back office that way(Ruscoe, Waterman, Rotham's brother).

Pretty dumb thing to implement IMO. Other clubs don't do it.

I'm pretty certain that they want those club roles available to aid recruitment of WAFL players (i.e. a living wage that falls outside the salary cap) - "come and play WAFL for us and we'll even give you a day job"
