Also with the midfielders having to rotate on the ground for a 'rest' period, you don't want them into a team structure position where they still have to run almost as hard as they did in the midfield. To my mind this will be interesting to see if teams will create positions for the smaller/mid size players who will be more 'stay at home'. This then will have an effect on the opposition coach/player. Will that player have the endurance to push and 'hurt' their opponent? Will coaches look to exploit this in some way?
It will be interesting to see if structure suffers with players 'resting' in alternative roles.

It doesn't have to suffer; I think that the cap simply introduces a new dynamic to the game. The running capacity of teams under the old,old rules meant whole ground flooding was happening which is the root of this problem. The substitute solution addressed this, but worked better in theory than practice. Especially coupled with the automatic "off with concussion" rule teams were simply losing too many players and having a fit bloke just sitting there.
With the new additions to our team I truly think that we are going to see a dramatic shift in the way that the Crows play ball this year. I think that we will have 5 types of players Defenders, Mid-Defenders, Pure Mids, Mid-Forwards and forwards. I think that our rotations on field will almost be constant in nearly every play phase. This gives us the advantage on not allowing the opposition to orientate and also gives our players continual rest so that they will tire more gradually. I also think that this fits more with the mid "Net" style that we have seen recently.

Agree, but I need you to tell me more about the 'Net' style? Am being serious.

I also managed to get down to training on Friday with the Mrs. WW appears to have provided a pretty good commentary on the training and also on the state of speed limits in SA, however I suggest he's going to the wrong places for coffee...

As usual, very difficult to differentiate players, worse than I remember in fact. i swear they've all copied each other's hair cuts...

A few minor comments.

Tom Lynch: looks in top shape, strutting around the training in a similar manner to Stevie J. I reckon he's gained half a yard in pace too. Looks set for a big year,p.
Milera: appeared to be training more midfield than small forward, wouldn't be surprised if he's pushing for a midfield spot, as opposed to a small forward spot as expected.
B.Crouch: Disposal iffy, but looks fit and unrestricted, a matter of gaining ball skills.
Doedee: did not look out of place or overwhelmed at all in game sim. Settled, balanced, clean take and disposal. Again would not surprise if he's challenging for a spot early.
Hampton/Seedsman/Smith: look like they'll be rotating back flank with some midfield relief.
Charlie Cameron: Was in amongst everything, get set for a decent year,
Thommo: looks in as good a shape as ever, would not be surprised if he pushes for another season, did not look like a player on his last legs.
Grigg: also impressed, In amongst the tough stuff. More standout than Ellis-Yolman, Gore and Lyons.

Norwood, Canadiens, Maroons.
It equates to roughly 4 interchanges per player to the 5.5 per player last year so 1.5 interchange less per player. So in the second half we might just see a bit more kick to kick again to give everyone a few mins to recouparate. Qtr times and especially half time breaks now will become more important to recover
Will we see the oxygen cylinders on the interchange bench like in American football? Other methods of blood oxygenation like high altitude training.

Think it's pretty much acknowledged that Milera will be developed as a mid . Has all the tools to be , just that he put on a clinic when centrals played him forward

Think we are happy with our small forwards ( betts Cameron and occasionally knight ) and need a dynamic mid that can kick like Milera

Massive chance for round 1

If Milera as a mid ....why not Menzel?

Would be very happy with this. Grigg also seems to be firming for a R1 spot

It should be acknowledged that Milera barely played forward in SA U18s side last year

The fact that he spent some time off half back suggests that Phillips rated his kicking and run off half back as Phillips team always has the best kicks playing off half back
