I'm rapt to be continually hearing of good things from Mitch Grigg. We desperately need someone to step up and be a consistent B grade mid with an eye to developing even further. To be honest I'm not fussed who it is - so all power to Griggy....bring it!!
Agreed. I don't have favourites on who I want to make the 22 ... I'm just glad we have people competing for the spots that could all bring something new and exciting to our club on game day.

I've been a lot more bullish on Harry's prospects than most, another "son of a gun" with a great pedigree like Jake Kelly that really "wants" it, similar to Kelly in that regard in being prepared to go to great lengths to achieve a decent AFL career. Think he could well turn out to be another left field Ogilvie bargain.

Added bonus if his body issues are now behind him of keeping the pressure on Jenkins to bring his A game consistently and strong back up for our 2 KPF's. Reckon he might rip the SANFL up this season.
I am in the same camp with one difference, I believe he could put pressure on the club to run Lynch in the mids with Tex playing that high tall and mobile Forward, Leaving the Crows with 2 genuine talls in the forward line.

Maybe but I feel Grigg is a better midfielder whereas Menzel is a greater goal sneak.
Just beat me to it. Grigg one of our best endurance athletes - hard to see Menzel getting to that level but has the skills to compensate provided he reaches an adequate level of fitness

One thing I did notice this morning, they were really working on the slingshot out of defence.

Isolating one side and getting a speedster on the outside.

I like nearly everything about Grigg's game but he's too damned slow.

Which guys we're playing as the speedster?

Some of the stuff he did in the SANFL was a delight to watch Bicks. He is seriously quick and hard at the footy, which unfortunately led to him dislocating his shoulder against the Roosters. I loved that in the training session last year that he was matched up against Tex and was more than holding his own. He is a seriously tall, agile and solid lad that could cause an awful lot of havoc in the future if he can remain pretty injury free now. I know the club don't see him as a ruckman at all (well they didn't last year), just a KPF.

Thanks to every one that went and bothered to write up a report.

Was expecting a longer report than that WW, did training go for 15 minutes or a couple of hours?
sorry .....only so much you can write without fabricating stuff ......training IIRC was probably 2.5 hours

Everyone ...coaches and players knew what they were doing going from exercise to exercise .....no explaining, no stopping to re-iterate anything ...very professional, but light session

Seedsman Hampton Smith Atkins Knight Grigg * and Knight

Highly excited about our outside game this year

* Grigg is hard to place , should probably play on inside due to lack of speed but seems to find space in offensive spread ( but struggles defensively with his running )
Grigg should be an inside mid, that's where he started at Norwood. Too slow for outside run.

Thanks Wayne. So are you happy with Menzel?
From what i saw today .....he was good without being outstanding

We know he's highly skilled .....that was evident again today .....the unknown is his application to hard work, tough it out .....hard to get any gauge from today

Fact is most players looked in great shape, trained well .....it's when you start actually getting genuine opposition that the gritty players rise to the occassion

If the question is ..."was Menzel worth the deal " .....absolutely, but iam going to judge Menzel more on his 2017 performance than this year

McGovern .....really didn't notice him. or even if he was out there?

ROB ......like all the ruckman (inc Jacobs) not that noticeable ....with hats on, and continually changing tops it was hard to differentiate Lowden, Jacobs, Hunter, or ROB
Not the type of session that told us much about any of the big guys

Dear ....Good size, good hands ....and quite quick. Was played as a FF in exercises today and looked fit

Ramsey .... has thinned down and now is easily distinguishable from Tex. Played forwrd in exercises .....today added nothing to what we already know about him

Hunter ....IMO needs a bit more bulk on .....but didn't focus on him at all sorry
Cheers.

So it looks like Dear looks like our most likely backup kpp forward & also an option for going tall to stretch sides, with lynch moving into the midfield.

Yes Dear looks a better fit than Ramsey ATS, to replace Jenkins if injured ... although Ramsey moved well today

Wouldn't like to see Jenkins and Dear in the same forward line if Tex was injured?? .....too much a similar type of player

Exercise today where midfield was deliberately kicking high to the FF zone so a player could go up on a jumping bag manned by a trainer .......says to me Jenkins, McGovern, ruckman deep forward .....Tex roaming CHF, which is fabulous IMO

I've always liked Dear

Ramsey was a backman before he got drafted too so that third talk type intercept player

Back may be where he needs to play here then
him in the backs and McGovern in Fwds to start with in SANFL
We have a truckload of backs in front of Ramsey .....Otten, Henderson, Shaw, Seedsman, Hampton, Smith, Lever ......

Think the club ATS (this year) have said via their actions to try and secure another KPF, are saying that's where we are a bit thin in depth
